Today I had to wait in my car for a couple of hours with nothing but music, so I had a good first listen to the new Herd of Instinct album. It blew me away! Very hard to tell if it's composed or improvised. My guess is composed, as it's all very satisfying and complete, but it also has a ton of energy and spontaneity. I love music like this - very out there and different, yet so satisfying! Highly recommended!

Listening to this in the car again today. It's so good - it's like if you put King Crimson, Camel, Djam Karet, and Mark Kelly in a blender.

Is it instrumental or does it have vocals. I have at least one by them but can't remember.

Uh, I think it's all instrumental, but now I'm not totally sure. One track has some narrative at the beginning - the opening of Metamorphosis.

Loving it! Anything with a Crimson vibe and mellotron is my kind of band! :up

The Camel and Mark Kelly references might have been incorrect - I think it was one track where there was, to my ears, some very Camelish guitar and some Moogy, Mark Kellyish keyboards, but overall there's more of a Crimson vibe, and a VERY progressive fusion feel.

It will be in my next order, have to say it's pretty unimpressive album art, I keep wanting to look away from it.

Huh, I actually like it, though it's not very suggestive of anything.

I'm a little late to the party on this one, but I just got it Monday and have now spun it two times. Good album, I'm digging it. I'm not super familiar with it yet, but I haven't heard anything I haven't liked, and several moments have caught my ear.
It does feel like this one is a bit more restrained than Conjure. I could be wrong about that, I may need to give Conjure a fresh listen and maybe do them back to back, but my first impression of this one is that it is not as heavy hitting. It may be that the drums are pushed back in the mix a bit. I'm not sure.
Anyway, that isn't a big deal, but it was something I noticed. I still have enjoyed the album so far and look forward to getting more familiar with it.

Mark's a friend of mine from camp. We mean to collaborate at some point.
Dig the new one, think it's their best...to me it's a tiny bit more Djam Karet (keyboards-wise) than Mark Kelly.
