Does anyone here know what model acoustic guitar is used on this section of TAAB? Is it a Martin Parlor guitar? How does he make it sound like a 12 string? I'm fairly certain it's not, but I have never been able to figure out what model it is, and how either Ian or Martin got that tone.

I'm no guitar expert (or even beginner), but I suspect it's just really good technique. Roy Harper is also able to make a six-string sound like a 12-string - he's just damned good. Also, it's not rushed, which probably helps a bit in getting that clean, complex sound.

I have seen him live with JT in 1973 performing TAAB playing a small nylon stringed acoustic, and he plays with his right hand rather close to the bridge. Dont know the brand of the guitar.

Great guitars, great engineering, etc but also GREAT player with a phenomenal touch and technique to always get his acoustics to sing like birds. A magical guitarist imo.

Ian primarily used Martin 0-16NY guitars during Aqualung and Thick as a Brick. How does he make it sound like he does? Probably because he's one of the most underrated acoustic guitarists in rock. However there is some overdubbing on that section, to be fair.

Incidentally, Tull never performed the "Believe In The Day" section live in the 70's. If I recall right, Ian and the new group did perform it a few years ago.

That's correct. Even though the '72 performances of TAAB were expanded to a full hour with extra solos and skits, that section was always omitted. The recent TAAB2 tour was the first time the complete original album was performed live.
