Sib was on the Legends of Rock Cruise and was midset when he suddenly collapsed. A witness says CPR was performed and a defibrillator was used but to no avail. Sib was 67.

Former drummer. Hasn't been with them for a while, I thought.

Former drummer. Hasn't been with them for a while, I thought.I think he was pushed onto the band by management or the record company, because Tom's drummer of choice - an old friend, who also played keys - was seen as not cutting the mustard. Also, "Sib Hashian" started out as a pseudonym (big surprise), he used it because his dad was a minor celebrity.

And later Sib was pushed out in favor of the original drummer.

Not very long ago Jimmy Bain (Rainbow etc.) also died on one of these cruises, albeit not on stage or anything- it turned out he had cancer and apparently was not aware.

Very sad news. :(

As someone who still really, really enjoys that first Boston album this makes me sad. RIP Sib.

What band was he playing with on the cruise?

None of the articles seem to mention it.

Very sad to hear this. He was quite the visual focal point for Boston, whether you loved or hated the afro. I once heard that the band's concert attendees could see his hair form an inner-halo against his gong, even in the furthest seats of the largest stadiums. It's too bad that his credits as a drummer were limited overall. It's also ironic that two of the most iconic hairdos in '70s rock were cultivated by two men whose respectively rare names — Sib and Sid — were just a letter off from one another.

Anyway, rest in peace Sib.

BTW, has anyone here gotten an eye-full of Sib's daughter?

A real shame. :(

Loved that first Boston record.

I think it was some kind of "all star" jam taking place during that set. Different players from different bands were performing songs together.

Probably not the place, but she doesn't do much for me. Not that she cares!

Former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau posted this on his Facebook site:

" It's with a very heavy heart that I have to announce that my musical partner of 50 years, Sib Hashian, collapsed during our set on the Rock Legends Cruise last night. Despite efforts to revive him, he did not survive. Sib was in a million, never to be replaced. He will be greatly missed."

Very sad; I believe God invented electric guitars so Boston could write "Don't Look Back." I totally remember the "he-bro" Sib "donned" on the back of the greatest hits album (aka the debut). What a great set of fantastic, hooky, fun songs with the best lead-off single ever. I can hear "More Than a Feeling" five trizillion times and still get that same buzz as back when I was a kid in a correctional facility. I listened as I typed this (majestic guitar solo now) and it's still killer. I anticipate the off-kilter "chunk-a-CHUNK, chunk-a-CHUNK" guitar on the fade-out. There it was.

Rock music. Dead.

The first two Boston albums are like bacon and eggs to me, they always taste great. "It's (Over) Easy" from Don't Look Bacon is kind of a forgotten sausage for a band notorious for being over-cooked.

At least Sib died doing what he loved but what an unfortunate experience not only at sea but in front of an audience.* Rest in peach.

*Someone on board regrets not getting him to sign their vinyl at the breakfast buffet earlier.

RIP. His drumming is nothing special on those first couple albums (imo). The sound of Boston was the guitars, the voice, the Hammond Fucking Organ.
