Yay, Larchmont! Beautiful place to be! :up
You're going to love this: from pre-school to 6th grade, I attended the Berkeley Carroll School (it was known then as The Berkeley Institute) on Lincoln Place in Park Slope.
Alas, I am no longer in the greatest city in the US...I'm in Los Angeles now. ::::cries:::: My brother had to evacuate because of Sandy, as did many of my friends. What a devastating tragedy this has been for so many.

Hi, I'm Kavus. I read regularly and post sporadically but enthusiastically. In real life I am annoyingly opinionated although rarely seriously so. I've found this can be hard to 'pull off' on the internet without upsetting people so I try to be a nice guy. As of 2010 I never post on any site when I'm drunk, this means I can usually face logging in to see what replies I have garnered the following day
It usually works.

I have been a progressive music fan since I heard the first King Crimson album in 1969 along with the first Emerson, Lake and Palmer record, arguably the two best records in progressive rock history. I'm also a writer and I did write one book all about music called Daddy Left Me Alone with God (God being Eric Clapton). For more info and a lot of cool photos, you can visit my website :cool

11-06-2012, 04:15 PM
I am Arkangel3. My real name is Ken Walsh; my pseudonym for my writing is K. Austin Walsh (so as not to get confused with Pulitzer Prize winning writer Ken Walsh. He's too good a writer to be saddled with my stuff :D ) I play keyboards and a bit of drums. I have been playing keyboards since I was 5 and I play entirely by ear. I also can sing (and since quitting smoking my voice is coming back with a fury. Must be having a little less lung! It's nice to hit notes that I haven't hit in years again!) I am married almost 20 years; I have two girls 15 and 11 who are just as good looking and smart as their parents, LOL. I love Science Fiction literature (my favorite writer of all time is Harlan Ellison) and I think Babylon 5 is the most brilliant television show ever created. I stopped drinking 7 years ago and stopped smoking several months ago. I guess this means I'm no fun anymore. I'm a 9/11 Survivor and a political leftist (No, I'm not looking for the Revolution...just equality and justice for all). I'm working on my first novel and hope to have it published before I die, LOL. I am a freelance writer and stay at home dad; I'm also pretty ill so I try and write as much as I can when I feel as good as I am able. I have been blown away by Progressive Rock ever since I first heard "Trilogy" by ELP at the tender age of 12.
There...that's my miserable existence :D

I slipped up - dunno why it wasn't obvious to me, but I did not add a field on everyone's user profile for "Real Name".
I've now added that field. it is optional, as it was in PEv2, and can be changed:
Click on "Settings" (near the top-right-hand corner)

Scroll down - and you'll see the "Real Name" field.

Good morning. Planechant, here. I thought of taking the opportunity to change my user id, but one of my characteristics is that I find my own jokes far too amusing. A pun on geometry and Gregorian chant? Priceless! Working from home this morning, as there's ice coming out of the sky. My three musical loves are Baroque music, prog, and rural French accordion. I actually write a blog about french accordion (http://www.accordeonaire.blogspot.com).
As much as I fear change, I'm getting used to the new site. ProgEars continues to improve my quality of life.

Hello, no user name change here, I've had it since Peog Ears was on Yahoo, and that's a lot of years and posts ago.
Real name Chris, a music fan with an eclectic taste that goes way beyond prog, but this music has been with me since the 70'a was my first love, and sows no sign of diminishing. I can't imagine a day that I wake up and do not check in here, it's so food to have a haven on the web with like minded friendly folk. I haven't posted quite so much these past few years, life has been a bit hectic, and a lot has happened personally, but I am in a great place right now, and also loving the new direction for PE, it's a time for new beginnings, so here's to our brave new world!

I am Tom and still unbound.
As a member of the 'geezer community', I grew up with all of this #@^&* .
Seen it, done it, been there, and picked up the occasional t-shirt along the way.
Amassed thru buying/trading/selling about 9 feet of (soon to be labeled 'prog') vinyl along the way. Vinyl bootlegs my fave.
Drifted away from music in the 80's and 90's. Real life was a big distraction. Damn it's reality.
Found PE. I was reborn with expanded horizions. PE, and all who post, saved my life. THANK YOU !!
Lived happily ever after.

I'm "Hal..." You can call me Hal. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to divulge my real name.
I've been here so long I've seen the demise of my marriage, my brother, and two dogs. I also tend to stay in the shadows, now. And by that I mean I don't post to the public forums very much anymore. This new site, however, has had me posting publicly quite regularly.
My name is Robin and I try not to be too, um, over-enthusiastic about my two kids so I won't tell you about the gig my daughter Julie played with Adrian Belew this past weekend or the fact that my son just played two sold out shows in Washington, D.C. and was voted #3 up and coming drummer this year by Modern Drummer Magazine. Holy shit! You're Julie & Eric's mom? Too f'n cool! If I were you, I'd have been kicked out, by now, for nonstop bragging! So, how long have you been on PE?
Krys here - reporting for duty.
Hi Krys. Nice avatar. So, why is it that Tigger is always the favorite character of women?
Incidentally, I still have my vinyl copy of Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree. :cool

Hi Bill. How's Frank? Is he still alive?
I'm Michael, called progfellow on the old site for 12 years now. It was such a generic name, but in some ways it's sad to say goodbye to the old name (as boring as it was).
Hi Michael. I never thought your ID was boring; I always found it very apt. But it's a good thing your website is in your signature so I'll know who you are.

Cool. Baroque is one of mine as well (though I'm still learning). Huge Telemann and Handel fan.
Have yet to be disappointed by anything I've heard by Vivaldi (duh! :roll). Have also enjoyed what I've heard by Albinoni, Corelli, Lully, and Rameau (I'm steering clear of Bach for the time being. lol).
Big fan of some of the French impressionists, too. Can't say the same for prog and I don't know what you mean by "rural French accordion", but if it's anything like the following video, I love that kind of music.

Hi, I'm Adrian. I was Adrian on the old site. That way, anyone who blocked me there can just as easily block me here. ;)
Adrian is my real name, and you're not the first person to make a "Yo, Adrian" joke. My last name is really Rush. It's just a happy coincidence that I'm also a Rush fan. And since you asked, I can take or leave Limbaugh, and I'm not usually in a hurry.
Just your typical agnostic vegetarian libertarian, enjoying being a stay-at-home (and work-at-home) dad. I earn my keep as a freelance editor. Happy to entertain editing projects, but my primary client keeps me employed virtually full-time, so between that and caring for my 15-month-old daughter, I have almost no time to take in extra work anymore.
Lover of almost all kinds of music, though '70s-style symphonic prog is where it's really at for me.
Michigan native. Lived in metro D.C. for seven years, and I've been in the Pacific Northwest for a couple of years now. Thinking of one day going expat.
Also a fan of just about anything involving a football or a puck. Been following Notre Dame and the Packers for most of my life. I love both the NFL and the CFL, for completely different reasons. Longtime Red Wings fan. Never easy finding rugby union, Aussie rules, or Gaelic football matches to watch in the USA, but I love to catch them when I can.
PE member since 2006.

i am here and i'm still yogibear. of course yogibear is a name that not everyone is familiar with so i chose it since it sort of sets me within a certain time period. I love music , i still purchase music by the droves and i have a case of unopened canterbury prog in the basement fermenting. wonderful new house but where the old one was unique this new house seems cut out of the same cloth as all the other comment boards .
There is not a welcoming title/home page with the featured album of the day popping up with the album art, to find that takes some time/clicks whatever , i know i'm not going to use that feature much. so i know after getting used to things it will be the same wonderful place the old house was since the residents make the house right?

I dabbled in prog rock as a young kid and teenager listening to the mainstream stuff like Pink Floyd and Rush. It's only in the last couple years as an adult in my mid 30's that I started getting really heavy into prog and I am so glad. The prog world has infintessimally better music than the mainstream pop/rock/rap/country of today...AND THERE IS SO MUCH OF IT!!! It's almost overwhelming!

I am Mark a.k.a Mr. Toad. I used to hang around here a lot but seemed to drift away for a while. I mean with work, trying to finish a book, family and all the drinking I have to get done it's no wonder.
I looked at the calendar and saw it was June 22. This used to be the date for NEARfest and I thought about this place and you maggots. I'm glad to everything is still here.

Gosh, that's so poignant.

The rumors of my death have been only slightly exaggerated
I pop in now and again, though I post in only a handful of threads. I rarely listen to prog anymore so the bulk of the conversation that takes place on this board rates very high on my Don't-Give-A-Fuck-O-Meter.

Hello. Brand new here (yay, fresh meat!)... I have an older sibling to thank for introducing me to Genesis & Peter Gabriel when I was still a carpet crawler. My first Genesis concert was 'Three Sides Live' @ the Greek Theater & my first PG concert was the 'Security' Tour at the same venue. I'm open to all sorts of music though I do have my faves... I suppose I'm a classic prog at heart but that's only because outside of Porcupine Tree I don't really know who the new good prog bands are right now. Guess I need to hop on the Pandora bandwagon to catch up...

Never really introduced myself when I joined a couple months ago and just stumbled on this thread so...Hello PE!
A little background...before discovering prog I grew up in the 60's as a Beatles/Stones fan then fell in love with Black Sabbath in '73. I eventually got into prog about a year later when I was wandering a record store and saw the cover of Brain Salad Surgery. One thing lead to another and in a year I was a total prog maniac. My 1st prog concert was Yes (with Moraz) & Gentle Giant in '76, then saw Tull the next few years, Genesis on the W&W tour, ELP on the Works tour, Yes a few more times, etc...One of my fave shows was seeing Peter Hammill on the Room Temperature Live tour at this club in SF. I'm a huge fan of 70's King Crimson (yes, I did buy "The Road to Red"!) though I never got to see them live, I did meet Robert Fripp when he brought his Frippertronics tour to my local Tower Records in 1978. From '77 to '80 I played bass in some SF bay area prog bands then got tired of the whole band drama thing, got a reel-to-reel and started playing all the instruments and recording my own stuff. Released 25 albums between 1987 and 2011 as "Mutiny in Jonestown" but my newest one man band project is a band called "WytchCrypt" which is a mix of 2 of my favourite things, doom metal and mellotron...I've got my 1st few songs up on youtube so just search for "WytchCrypt" if you're curious.
Besides King Crimson, VDGG and the usual suspects my favourite prog subgenre is 70's/80's French bands like Ange, Mona Lisa, Pulsar, Atoll, Memoriance, Carpe Diem, Terpandre, Shylock, etc...well that's about it. Spent a few months on another well known prog forum but didn't much like the intolerance and constant bickering of many members so here I am!

Thanks!
My leanings are kinda all over the map, honestly. I'd have to say my favorite Prog band would be Kansas...I love them to bits and have everything they've ever released (many on CD and vinyl doubled).
Beyond that, wow...I can run from Yes/Genesis/King Crimson/Pink Floyd over to Fates Warning/Porcupine Tree/Spock's Beard over to Katatonia/Radiohead/Muse/Crippled Black Phoenix back over to Dream Theater then on over to Marillion, take a run at Opeth, some Bigelf, Enchant, OSI, Rush, Anathema, The Dear Hunter, Camel (learning about Camel lately), Tull....
I guess that would probably be considered more "mainstream" Prog, wouldn't it?

How about "more accessible than the Prog that isn't accessible" Prog. :)

chavo6 here. Lurked a long time (since PE v2), then joined last winter.
Bass player (Berklee grad), like all types of music. My prog credentials are minimal: a few Yes CDs, attended 2 NearFests and one RosFest. Also saw Yes a few years ago (w/ Davison), excellent show. And by sheer coincidence, a co-worker at my day gig was the drummer for Advent 'Cantus Firmus' era (very interesting how he describes his approach in that band, as a bassist I have much empathy with drummers).
For me, the value of this forum is knowledgable, intelligent discussions on a music genre I know relatively little about. Also really like and learn a lot from the Off-topic threads on 'Sunshine Pop', 'Stoner', jazz and classical.
Oh yeah ... no beer or wine. Gin or tequila, please!

BTW, seems to me I've noticed a few new PE members as of late (at least new to me). It'd be great to have some introductions! :)

Hey everyone,
Greetings from Melbourne, Australia. Am very excited to have discovered this forum.. I've been listening to Prog rock for over 30 years (King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, Porcupine Tree) but am only now expanding my horizons to the multitude of other bands in the genre.. I think my ears are in for a treat! Looking forward to exploring and discussing! Cheers.
