Not sure the reasons are "unknown". Simply said, there WAS a market for such archive stuff from a major label's standpoint some years ago, when GB was asked by Sony to investigate Columbia's Mahavishnu vaults, but in the meantime, for reasons well known, said market disappeared.

Surely, smaller labels would be very happy to deal with that treasure trove and would find this financially rewarding, but sadly this isn't what seems to be happening with the release discussed here...

As posted on McLaughlin's fb page, it looks like a 3-LP edition of a 1972 MO concert at the Berkeley Community Theater is in the pipeline.

Just ordered it- to be released mid-September.
I'm not lazy. I just work so fast I'm always done.

Interesting. It looks like yet another "radio broadcast" release but McLaughlin apparently approved it, since he posted a photo on Instagram where he is holding the record.

I wonder if these vintage broadcasts from the Berkeley Community Theater are being licensed by the main rightsholder. There was a well-regarded Alice Coltrane release along these lines a few years ago.

The Alice Coltrane is 300 shades of groovy but also absolutely and 100% a bootleg.

Fond memories of concerts at Berklee in the late 70s just born a little too late for the 72-74 hey days

I may just have what I need for live MO

I've got the Montreux DVD, the BN&E (expanded from the Original MO boxset) and the Dawn release (Buffalo 01/27/72)

Though lavishly packged, I'm not sure Dawn (Buff 72) is legit.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Laser's Edge has a couple new radio-broadcast CDs from 1973:

    Cornell Univ 2/23/73: https://www.lasercd.com/cd/cornell-u...ty-ny-1973-2cd
    Avery Fisher Hall 12/27/73: https://www.lasercd.com/cd/avery-fis...-york-1973-2cd

Anyone know more about these? If one is better than the other in terms of sound quality, track listing, performance?
