I also like Six Japanese Gardens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQLA4cUv1IQ

And Du Cristal which has more going on in an orchestral setting.

Last night I went to a live performance for the first time since the pandemic and it was great to be back in the concert hall. I'm still recovering from a fantastic Rite of Spring!

Me too! Satie, Gymnopedie No 1 (orchestral); Rachmaninoff, Piano Concerto No 2; Holst, The Planets. First live music in 2 years, 2 months. Glorious!

I saw Roomful of Teeth perform 'Little matchgirl passion' and 'Partita for 8 voices' last night. Two pullitzer price award winning pieces. Fucking amazing. Very glad I went.

    Nice!
If it isn't Krautrock, it's krap.

    Bartok - SQ #3
I really got into no.3 for the first time a couple months back. I need to do this with each quartet. Just listen one piece for a solid week.

I'm jamming Pehr Henrik Nordgren Symphonies 3 and 5 now. Because, they're cool.

^ I think I'm over exposed to Hip Hop. I read that as Lil Boulanger.

But mainly known as teacher. I think she stopped composing after her sister died.

She really did. Very French too, and some 7th chords with the jazzy flavor as a musical ingredient. The lady was something else but was gone way too soon. Imagine another 50 to 60 years of composing....she was only 24.

Yeah, getting sick before the age of antibiotics and vaccines was not a good thing. Gabriel Faure, who was a family friend, discovered she had perfect pitch at age two.

It was also quite common. It wasn't at all unusual for a husband or wife to come home and find their spouse dead. Being an orphan was quite common. JS Bach was raised by an older brother, and famously came home to find his first wife Maria Barbara dead.

Thanks for the mini doc, Frank! I found my Lili CD on Hyperion. It features a collection of songs, Clairieres dans le ciel, as well as Sirenes, Funeral for a Soldier, among others. Gonna give it a spin.

The other CD I have is on the Timpani label. It features Psalm 130, and several shorter pieces. I'll have to search around for that one.

She's amazing. The more I listen, the more I hear genius at such a young age.

Also been hitting Ravel like a ton of bricks. Daphnis is getting spun a lot!

Wow, just heard for the first time - sounds to me like a cross between something Keith Emerson would take on or a lost track from Keith Jarrett’s Cologne Concert. Brilliant stuff.
