I was really disappointed when the excellent show The Riches was cancelled mid-storyline. Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver were excellent as the two grifters taking over the life of a man killed in a car accident they caused. Izzard initially talked about financing a concluding few episodes, but nothing came of that.

Now that I forked over the $4.99 monthly for AppleTV you can bet I'll be getting my money's worth. First up, Mythic Quest. Hilarious!! Love the guys from ASIP and they have a big hand in this show, love MMORPG so the context is there, and the cast is top notch.

Saw a funny meme about how the current 20-somethings have cut their expenses by getting rid of cable. Now they've replaced it with 20 different subscription services.

We've been DirecTV subscribers for 20 years. My wife, who refuses to make any attempt to "figure out" streaming, will not let me cancel. So now we have DirecTV, Apple, Amazon, HBO Max, Peacock, Netflix, The Criterion Channel, plus myriad other "free" streaming platforms. Quite a change from the days of three channels, rabbit ears and replacing the broken channel knob with a pair of pliers.

I had the same issue in my household up to the moment we separated. (All good)

Now that we are co-parenting housemates and I pay the bills we have streaming only. She adapted quite well once we had YouTube TV added for access to most of the cable channels and a familiar grid menu.

I really liked that one too. Izzard and Driver were both great in those roles.

About to start the final season of Bosch. This has been a fun ride and hope it finishes off well

I have to step away from the detective thing though after this for a while. Lookin' to get into a good atmospheric, creepy kinda series (the Carnivale posts did it ) dark with maybe a little sci-fi thrown in. Anyone have any good recommendations?

If you haven't seen Babylon 5, I recommend it highly -- the only time I ever paid for tv began so I could watch the last season when it went off broadcast. It's more SF and less "dark" but it definitely has its dark elements. And the character arcs are just amazing.

Cable remains the only viable option for anything approaching true broadband here in the States. We still need cable to stream content. Sure, 5G home internet just became available in my area. But that's just as expensive as cable internet, and it's not quite as fast.

I watched the documentary about Woodstock '99 this evening. WOW. What an eye opener. So much rage, filth, destruction, and violence of every type. Truly despicable. I'm still kind of reeling from it, that was way too many obnoxious, shirtless, red-faced twentysomething meatheads to take in one sitting.

I read an article about it back then. What a shit show, that was plagued by controversy, including rape: Woodstock 99: Three days of peace, love and rape. Fuckin' animals.

It literally was. Thousands of fans were covered in it and rolling around in it.

We've been watching a new series on SyFy called Surreal Estate. A realty company specializes in selling "problem" houses that are haunted by various supernatural entities. It has a decent sense of humor and we enjoy the cast. It's not extreme horror but the effects are very well done.

Isn't this a Star Trekkie type of thing? That's probably a little to sci-fi for me, but I'll look into it thanks!

Of those I've seen the first season of The Preacher and liked it, but for some reason never continued on. Bizarre show! I should get back to that thanks! The other two I've heard of, but know nothing. Not a big fan of comic book stuff though...if that's what The Watchman is. Will investigate

But the couple dozen streaming services we'll all eventually have to subscribe to will end up costing way more than cable or satellite TV.

Watchman is based on a graphic novel but that's where the resemblance to anything comic ends. It's a serious, thought-provoking, bizarre tale.

I don't think any of these are atmospheric or creepy but I've recommended Umbrella Academy in the past. Warrior Nun was pretty good, too.

Locke & Key was a show I really liked. Can't wait for its return.

    All are on Netflix.

As for Preacher, it is the most twisted and fucked up show I've ever seen. Just check out the following characters:
Jesse, an ex-con who goes straight, becomes a preacher, and is ordained with a superpower
Tulip, his ultra hot badass girlfriend who knows her way around a car, drives a purple '72 Chevelle, and likes guns
Cassidy, Jesse's Irish best friend who loves drugs and alcohol and is a vampire
Eugene, aka Assface, who's mouth looks like an anus due to a botched suicide attempt
Hitler, who becomes friends with Eugene
a couple of inept angels who are tracking down Jesse to remove his superpower and take it back to Heaven
an immortal homicidal cowboy from the 19th century known as the Saint of Killers and who is hunting Jesse
a secret organization called The Grail who's also hunting Jesse to steal his superpower and whose job is to protect Humperdoo
Humperdoo, the last living descendant of Jesus and who has the IQ of a gnat
the Allfather, who dresses like a Bishop or Cardinal, is the gluttonous head of The Grail, and who believes Humperdoo is the Messiah
    Satan
God, of course, who has abandoned Heaven to ride around on a Harley in a Dalmatian dog suit made of latex

    Loved this show.

    It's on Hulu.

    Edit: Somehow I missed this:

Well, The White Lotus is finished. I liked the story and the acting and the scenery, but hated the pervasive music. I'm sorry, but who wants to hear hymns and Hawaiian choirs constantly? I just can't understand the thought process behind that. We muted those scenes and just read the captions, and sometimes the sound was off for three straight minutes.

Yes, it is very "sci-fi", but it's also very good. This is, as far as I know, the first time a single writer-producer (he actually wrote two and a half of the seasons straight through with no guest writers) conceived and created a five-year long single story for TV. It isn't very Trek at all.

I can't really identify with your reaction. I liked the music. <shrug>
