Thread: Current fav US TV series

Started watching Altered Carbon series. I read the books years back and enjoyed them. Im a few episodes in and it has my attention. Good production values, interesting plot. I think the plot parrells the book but I read them so far back I don't remember ennogh to spoil the video version.

One of my favorite shows but needs a lot of concentration to follow.

I'm on episode 7 of Black Summer and the description here was spot on. Walking Dead plus 28 Days Later, and I would add a touch of Blair Witch technique through the first 4 episodes. Minimal score allows for an immersive watching experience, and the character deaths are arbitrary and lacking cadence. I'm in for the rest and am also taking notes for the eventual real life zombie-pocalypse.

I finished season 2 last night and I liked it. It's slightly different than season 1, tho. Let me know what you think.

After you finish that, you should check out Zomboat! on Hulu. It's a Britcom take on the zombie apocalypse that starts in Birmingham. It's pretty humorous. Unfortunately, there was only one season because it got cancelled. But I don't recall that there was any kind of cliff hanger.

Yep. My biggest gripe with all these shows that have only 12, 10, or even 8 episodes a season: Hiatus brain

I tried with "Dispatches", but only made it through a few episodes. Just didn't click with me.

I can see how one might say that. I remember enough of the books to stay on track , but the wife is a little lost.

Decided to hit the Reacher series on Prime. Liking it so far! I'm not a big reader (I can here PE's stuffy eyes rolling ) so I know nothing about it other than that wee itty bitty Tom Cruise played him once. The dude playing him here is more true to the books I understand? I was a bit put off at first thinking he was just gonna be another "Get to tha choppa!" but I actually really like his character and how he's both badass and brilliant. And some pretty damn funny, dry one liners! "I was embarassed ordering that." Anyway, pretty cool plot so far and I'm in for the ride 4 episodes down.

    Now there's a distraction

I need to get back to Altered Carbon. I loved the first two books. The third one seemed to exemplify the rut the author fell into (plus he's been kind of a dick). But I've been getting through series after series, Peacemaker is the latest one. She-Who-Has-The-Remote has zero interest in it. Oh, and I made quick work of the two new episodes of Mrs. Maisel.

The Expanse had quite a satisfying end to season 6.

I agree, and look forward to the new series The Protomolecule. I just made that up, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Nor would I. And that got a giggle, FWIW.

    That reminds me...

I watched The Expanse when it first started but abandoned it because it didn't entirely click with me. I probably gave up too soon. I still have it in my queue, tho, and will probably get back to it, soon, as I'm running out of things to watch. Not because I've watched everything but more like because some shows don't pique my interest (Handmaid's Tale, Better Call Saul, Succession) or some shows I'm ambivalent about (You, Raised by Wolves) or I lose interest in a show (The Americans, Broadchurch, Ozark, Orphan Black) or I get busy with other things (squirrel!) or I often forget what shows do pique my interest or, if it's something that airs once week, I sometimes forget it's on (squirrel!).

So, what have been your favorite two or three shows the past couple years? (I'm compiling a list) Don't worry if I just mentioned it or someone else has mentioned it; post it anyway.

These are the shows in my queues already that I haven't pulled the trigger on (feel free to give a show a thumbs up or down if you've seen it):
    Clickbait
    Eureka
    Hanna
    In From the Cold
    Jack Ryan
    Nightflyers
    Rebecca
    Station Eleven
    Stitchers
    Upload
    You
You're the Worst (never finished it)

Also, has anyone seen Berlin Station? It's a series about the CIA in contemporary Berlin with a hell of a cast: Richard Armitage, Richard Jenkins, Michelle Forbes, Leland Orser, Ashley Judd, and Rhys Ifans (Sherlock's brother in Elementary).

Upload is fantastic and should go to the top of the list.
Clickbait was good, but felt like a TV Movie of the week.
Jack Ryan is good action fare, but lacks the edge of Reachedr
Station Eleven I could not stick with past episode
You is good but takes some perseverance and suspension of belief.
Hanna seasons 1 and 2 are kick ass

Midnight Mass and The Boys are in a class of their own in a good way.
Ozark is superbly done all around despite a tad implausible

Out of that list, the only ones I have seen are "Clickbait" and "You". "Clickbait" is ok, but nothing spectacular. "You" is a different take on the serial killer / Dexter narrative. It has flaws, but overall I enjoyed it. Can't be much help on the others....

Of that list "The Boys" would be my top pick. New season coming fairly soon.
