Don't try to make sense of it. The show runs on stupidity. Someone is always losing their mind and running (literally) into a situation that's going to get them and/or everyone else killed. Someone is forever leaving a gate open or whatever. If it weren't for that kind of thing there'd be a lot less action and less important characters dying.

I bailed on the Walking Dumb a few years ago, my wife watched on but now she's finally done with it. Some of the worst writing I've ever seen and I watched the last season of Game of Thrones.

Speaking of writing, I watched the first season of Reacher. The good guys were impressive and while the plot was ludicrous in places, it worked in that context. But man, those villains were pure cardboard, just so generic. I doubt if I'll tune in for season two.

I just ditched one of my streaming subscriptions and just added Paramount, so I guess I better wade in on Picard. I was delighted by the first season. I thought the meditations on what is life were quite well done (this is what happens when you have an award-winning writer running the writers room) and while Stewart isn't the presence he was, that was kind of the point. And good lord, I can't say enough about Jeri Ryan and the evolution of Seven of Nine. I would watch an entire series based on her character and they should damn well do it.

I think the regurgitated stories are endemic in not only "new" Star Trek but also that universe set in a galaxy far far away. Paramount and Disney have these hugely popular speculative fiction series and they're overly cautious. They should stop with the obvious fan service and give the stories to creators that want to build something new. I think Picard was part of that but now it looks like they're regressing. We'll see, Maybe as the season progresses we'll see it all get turned on its ear. Regardless, I am sick of the "play it safe, don't upset the fans" mode.

I also have read strong praise for a couple of the newer ST series, Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds. So I'll check those out soon.

Strange New Worlds isnt out until next month so youre going to have to wait
Lower Decks is really funny and clever
Discovery is the other big Star Trek show, it has its own kinda flavor all together but after a rough few first episodes, its pretty darn good. This past season was kinda listless though
the last current show is Prodigy, which is like a star wars clone wars type kids cartoon, but it has (the voice of) Janeway in it, so thats pretty awesome

Lastly, can't really agree on Picard at all...it was one big giant mess that is badly paced, and I think the writing is pretty bad in spots:P

Bzzzzaaaaap! Can't agree on Discovery, but maybe that's because Michelle Yeoh, my lifelong deepest most serious celebrity crush.

I think you are spot on with Picard, however I did enjoy the story arc itself and anything with Romulans is fantastic IMHO.

can't agree on what? I said I liked it? Honestly almost any episode without the empress is lame I think too, I love her -- I didnt want to get into specifics but I think the show has suffered this season without her character

    Only Murders in the Building

finally finished Season 1 with the wife (I finally got her to watch it with me a couple of weeks ago).

Hopefully a review coming on YouTube, but I can say while I like how they twisted a lot of the mystery, the ending was kind of just thrown in there almost at random as a cliffhanger. I do think there were some loose ends with the plot that hopefully will be addressed in Season 2 coming in June/July.

Upload on Prime. What can I say about it? Very simply, this is a wonderful show mixing science fiction, romance, humor, and mystery.

No. I was talking about S1. I just started S2 yesterday, after I posted.

I noticed that there are ten episodes in S1 but only seven in S2. That bothers me when that happens.

^^^Maybe it means that they're tailoring the series to the hunk of story they have to tell, rather than vice versa?

For those who gave up (rightfully ) on The Walking Dead I just thought youd like to know that you recently missed Father Gabriel aiming his rifle during a gun battle with his blind eye. At this point I only really glance over at the TV when I hear zombies Give me strength...

I do have to say though that I still like Maggie's character and she had a pretty cool girl fight last ep.

You'd think they'd have learned from the blow-back after Carl was aiming with his patched eye 4 or 5 seasons ago!

Agree, that was some decent stuff. It will be interesting to see where they take the Maggie & Neegan spinoff. I still like the Carol character too, but they have not given her a lot to do this season.

Really good new series on Apple starring Gary Oldman: “Slow Horses”. A British spy thriller with Kristen Scott Thomas as Oldman’s superior. The interplay between them is extremely fun to watch and the first episode starts with one of the tensest sequences I’ve seen lately. Pretty good stuff.

I used to do a bit of shooting when I was a teenager and I've often wondered if it mattered that I was shooting right-handed, but I'm left eye dominant? I mean, I was a pretty terrible shot and you would think someone would've mentioned this if it was a factor.

When I joined the Navy while in the delayed entry program, I target practiced with a pellet gun in the back pasture of my parents' acre. While in boot camp, my Assistant Company Commander decided to skip the half day firearms training, calling it a waste of time. The entire time I served in the Military, I never even touched a functioning firearm. All my target practice was for not.

Where shooting left handed becomes a problem is when the weapon ejects the casing to the right. Using your right hand to steady the weapon, hot brass will fly directly into your arm.

We finally started Yellowjackets this evening. Good first episode, quite intriguing. Too bad I had to see Van f**ing Epperson in it (in a tiny role, of course).

I used to do that too when I was a kid (with a BB gun), except that I was a pretty good shot. Never figured out why I did that, tho.

I had to be qualified on the 9mm Beretta M9 pistol, M16, and 12ga shotgun in the Coast Guard and carried the M9 everyday I was on duty. During testing, we had to show marksman level of ability with the "weak hand", which for me was left-handed, and I never had a spent casing hit me in the arm.

Apologies if I missed or don't remember the discussion, but is anyone here planning on watching Outer Range on Prime? Starts tonight, I think. It looks...intriguing.

I'm all over this as soon as I finish up the latest season of Ozark Got 2 more episodes left. But yeah Outer Range looks like something right up my alley
