Of the 4 seasons of “True Detective” it was better than season 2, but even close to the level of seasons 1 & 3.
I'd place Season 4 second, just ahead of season 3. Season 1 is untouchable imo.

I'm just glad you didn't put "True Detective" and "best all time ending" in the same sentence. Oh, crap....

I really liked the performances in season 3. Ali & Dorf raise the level of the season just because how good they were in their roles for me.

My Most Satisfying Series Finales off the top of my head:

    Breaking Bad
    The Leftovers
    Six Feet Under
    Fargo 1, 2, 3, & 5
    Newhart
    M*A*S*H

    Most Unsatisfying:

    L O S T
    Dexter & Dexter New Blood
    Sopranos
    Game of Thrones
    True Detective - Night Country
    True Blood
Dead Like Me (only because there wasn't one)
I'm sure there are many more...

I would agree, that all of the Fargo seasons have had solid endings. Breaking Bad with Walter dying while "Baby Blue" plays in the background was also a classic.

Although the ending of the second season was good, you could tell from some of the story-lines there had to be a third season of Carnivale, but that didn't happen...

Oh man this was a killer for me. Absolutely LOVED that series and was crushed when it was cancelled.

Good choices buddy. The Dexter and True Blood endings were awful.

True Blood was also made by the creator of Six Feet Under (Ball is it?). You could tell he wanted to recapture that magic. <BZZZZT> Fail. No cigar buddy.

Forgot about Carnivale! What a fkn shame. That series was fantastic!

Justified was very good, of course.

The most memorable have to be MASH and Newhart. Indeed, Newhart's is regularly cited as the best ever.

I know a lot of people didn't care for Seinfeld's. I even read an article that said how bad it was. But I thought it was perfect.

That was good too. And that reminds me of what I think is quite possibly the best montage I've ever seen – film or television:

    Abso-fucking-lutely brilliant.

    nt.
I liked the Seinfeld ending a lot better than most people did too. The whole court section with all of the returning characters was great. Ending up in jail talking about nothing, having learned nothing was perfect too.

I don't disagree about the actors. Great performances by them for sure.

For me it has to do with the season basically being much ado about nothing. I don't mind that, in theory. Some cases aren't nefarious and in the real world I would imagine things would happen like this. It was just alot of set up and red herrings that didn't pay off completley in the end for me. But as I said, I still think the season was a success and did like it alot. I should probably rewatch that season as I don't think I ever did.

Part of me feels like he is setting up the end of Curb Your Enthusiasm to be very similar to the seinfeld ending. Which would be a very larry david thing to do. Of course, he could just be setting it up that way and have a massive curveball(s) coming up as well.

I misread Dead Like Me as Dead To Me, which I thought was a top notch ending.

I've also always been satisfied by Fraiser's ending. A perfect bow with a little bit of mystery at the end.

I have only seen a few single episodes of Curb, so don't really know. I should watch it from the beginning one of these days.

Fraiser did have a good ending. I had forgotten about that one.

I didn't make it through Dead To Me. My wife really liked it, but for some reason it did not click with me.

I would add to that the Barney Miller finale. The most touching moment was when Inspector Luger called Levitt "Little Levitt" one time too many. Levitt yelled "Sir, it's not Little Levitt. It's Officer Levitt." Luger responded "No it isn't. It's *SERGEANT* Levitt."
