Looks like it might be worth checking out. HBO usually is quality stuff.

Definitely! I liked a lot of the prequels to Dune that were done by Dune author's son and a group of sci fi writers, so I'll subscribe to HBO max to see this in particular. The spice must flow!

I'm not on Netflix, but I saw a trailer for a show called The Diplomat. Looked good, if you can trust the trailer.

It's a not as serious as Keri Russell's previous series, a little lighter touch with some soapy elements. The acting is first rate, the dialog snaps. Hal Wyler is now my inner beast, especially when I slap on a suit jacket.

Correction: the Dune prequels, interquels, and sequels have all been by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, who is a good writer on his own but a notorious sharecropper whose done a score or so of Star Wars books, three X-Files books, and various oneoffs like novelizations of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and SkyCaptain and the World of Tomorrow, and a book each in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Endless Quest, DC Comics, and StarCraft milieux ... in addition to dozens of original novels of his own, ten with Doug Beason, a "Hellhole" trilogy with Brian Herbert, and the Clockwork trilogy with Neal Peart ... and edited half-a-dozen anthologies.

He's a very prolific fellow... and was at one time a friend and workshop partner of mine (he even bought a story from me for a Star Wars anthology); I've not seen him since he moved to Colorado about thirty years ago (damn, I feel old).

Thanks for the details. He's almost like the Billy Sherwood of Sci-Fi then?

  9. #8559
A bit more creative than Sherwood, I would say. He really can write good stuff when he isn't sharecropping. His first novel (Resurrection Inc. was really good, and he got better. His "Dan Shamble, P.I." zombie detective series is a delight.

But he knows where the money is, and I can't blame him if that's his motivation.

Cool that you knew him early on. I didn't realize he was that prolific. I did enjoy the prequels quite a bit that he helped with. Let's hope they do The Sisters justice.

I accidentally resubscribed to Disney+ last week (don't ask) and started watching The Acolyte. This is another high quality Star Wars series that I am really enjoying.

But it got me to wondering about all of the other Star Wars series and when they're coming back. For anyone interested, this is the latest, according to Google:

Ahsoka. Season 2 won't begin production until summer of 2025. WTF?

Andor. Season 2 will premiere April 22, 2025 – 2½ years after season 1 premiered.

The Book of Boba Fett. There is no release date for season 2 of The Book of Boba Fett because it's unlikely that the series will continue.

The Mandalorian. Season 4 is not officially announced, and it's unclear if it will happen after the announcement of a feature film.

Obi-Wan Kenobi. Lucasfilm hasn't canceled the series, but they're not in a rush to pursue another season.

    The Acolyte. Canceled. 😡

Fuck Disney and fuck Lucasfilm who, apparently, wants to shift its focus from TV to film.

I suppose I could live without most of them but Andor and Ahsoka are both really good shows.

After I finish with this show, I'll be canceling my subscription and and won't subscribe again until all of the episodes of Andor have been released, at which point I'll subscribe for a month and cancel again. Probably forever.

I don't recall seeing mention of the new Apple series Disclaimer, which is excellent. A thriller with a superb cast: Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen and a riveting Leila George, who is the daughter of Vincent D'Onofrio and Greta Scacchi. Written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón. Nice twist in the final episode.

Is anyone checking out the new "Dune" prequel on MAX? I am curious about it and would be interested in people's thoughts if they have started watching it.

Grotequerie – FX / Hulu: We burned through this latest offering from Ryan Murphy this week and I am still not sure what I just watched. Murphy is best known for his “American Horror Story” series and this horror drama is in a similar mode. The story is confusing, trippy and you never really know what is going on. The plot takes turns that at first seem obvious, but then turn again in a direction you don’t see coming. The cast was great. The dialogue good for the most part, and the cinematography very well done. Unfortunately it is a show that did not wrap anything up at the end and from what I have read a season 2 is still up in the air. If there is indeed only one season I was as confused at the end as I was through the entire show. I am not sure if I can recommend this or not. If there is a 2nd season I am in for it, but if not I am not sure what the point of it all was. Anyone else seen this?

Holy crap did this shit the bed after a promising first few episodes of season 3. Just awful. Monsters disappeared and all we got for the last few episodes was lame drama, annoying characters and a puppet. I'm out.

. Yup. What a disappointment. Dumped my MGM+ sub immediately.

Just finished Mr. Inbetween ( Hulu/FX ). Would love a season 4, if only to resolve a couple plot holes, but overall, I'm satisfied how it all went down. Jeezus, was this show brilliant. I loved all the random Tarantino'esque dialogue sections peppered throughout the entire series. This was a good (and easy) watch. Highly recommended.

    8.5 outta 10 splashes of prison-napalm.

BTW, other than Max, FX has some of the finest content out there.

Agree, I really wish they would do another season. This show is a hidden gem that not many people have seen. The guy who plays the lead (forgetting his name at the moment) was fantastic as was the guy who was in "Justified" who I also don't remember his name at the moment.

Jury Duty – Amazon Prime: Reality show where everyone in the cast are actors except for one guy. The guy thinks he is in a documentary about juries as the show revolves around jury selection and a trial. It was good light entertainment. James Marsden plays himself and I also recognized several other of the actors in the show, but apparently the guy in the show did not. This kind of thing has been done since Candid Camera way back in the day to various levels of success. I thought this one worked for the most part.

Culprits -Hulu: This limited 8-episode series centers around a man who lives with his finance (also male) and his two kids in Washington State. The person participated in a high stakes heist and has a violent past that is catching up with him in the present. Shows like this have been done before, but I really liked this one. In fact, I think it is one of the best things I have watched this year. Nathen Stewart-Jarret was outstanding as the lead character and the rest of the cast, which includes Niamh Algar (Raised By Wolves) and Eddy Izzard are all great. The story uses flashbacks to the heist and is professionally written with plenty of twists and turns. If you are looking for something that seems to have been rather looked over this year, “Culprits” is well worth a watch.
