I was fully in on HBO's The Nevers after two episodes. Love the mildly steampunk, magical powers thing, and the character development was drawing me in. The story advanced nicely last night.

Was not fully in on Mare of Easttown after one episode. It was really depressing, and seemed like it would be a tough watch - especially after the more whimsical vibe of The Nevers. But last night's episode pushed the story along and dropped a little bombshell at the end which brought me on-board.

Two really good Sunday night shows, for those who have HBO.

Yep. He even marries Sondra Locke one episode.

Yep, two more big hits for HBO. They couldn't be more different but both deliver.

Their intelligence is suspect to me. I think a lot of those bloggers were doing it trying to churn up some money. In fact money seemed to be the motivation thing with most of them except the people that read, and believe some of that hogwash. I assume 8kun is still there, but not as much traffic or followers, although they have other sites for porn, nazis, etc.

^ Thanks Scott. Her facility wants to move her out of Assisted Living and into their Nursing Home, which will be much smaller and possibly have a roommate. She already hates where she's at because it's too small.

The only thing that my mother-in-law was not an utter pain-in-the-ass was in not resisting moves from senior housing to assisted living to nursing home. My sister-in-law had power of attorney and the facilities did a lot of work getting the moves set up. But jebus, the other shit, like getting her stuff ready for each move and cleaning up after her, those were absolutely nightmares.

My offer to help/give advice applies to you, as well.

That whole roommate thing pisses me off. It didn't used to be like that. Did you know the law was changed so that nursing homes could double up Medicaid residents? Presumably to double up on profits.

Before I moved my mom into an assisted living facility (ALF), she was roomed with a woman who used to moan and cry all the time. It drove my mom nuts, who had dementia herself and didn't entirely understand what was going on. About a month and a half later, my dad passed away and so I became power of attorney and at my urging she was moved to another room. Her new roommate would have the TV volume cranked, which my mom also couldn't understand.. or tolerate. The nursing home would also put her in a "geri chair" and park her in a corner vestibule of the hallway, across from the nurse's station where they could keep an eye on her. My ex niece-in-law visited her one time and told me that the ALF she worked at was much better, so within a week I visited and then moved my mom there. She was beside herself at the improvement of environment, which included her own private room, and level of care, which was probably 1000% better than what she was getting.

I found out later that during the time my mom was in that NH, it had had over $100,000 of fines levied against it by the state (the next highest had ~$10,000 in fines). Why my dad put her in there is a mystery. Unless it was due to its former reputation as a high quality nursing home. I told an RN friend of mine about it and told me she used to be the charge nurse at that NH. It was then bought out by some corporation, who reduced the number of RNs and LPNs and replaced them with STNAs all while reducing overall staff, turning the place into a hell hole. The place looked like it needed a new paint job years ago and the carpet was past its due date, too. The hand rails, furniture, and floor boards all had scuffs and scratches in them.

My friend saw the writing on the wall and got a new job soon after the change in ownership.

Here's the strange thing: the cost of assisted living is quite a bit less than a nursing home and yet the care is usually much better (ALFs don't have certain nurse/doctor requirements the way NHs do, hence the lower price). The problem is most ALFs aren't Medicaid certified so once the resident is out of money, they go to a NH that accepts Medicaid. It's all fucked up and I could say quite a few things about it but that would violate PE's "terms of service" and get me in trouble, so I'll stop here.

That John Oliver segment on nursing homes was brilliant.

I agree, the profile of the equivalent of a slum lord nursing home owner with her sports car and ugly massive house was hilareous. She must of cringed with that type of publicity from John.

Back when John Oliver was still with the Daily Show, he proved more than capable as guest host. He filled in for an entire summer while Jon Stewart was directing a film overseas.

Watched episode 1 of season 4 of The Handmaid's Tale last night, as dark as usual.

Just curious Jerol. Was this in the same episode you referred to?

We just started "The Man In The High Castle" on Amazon last night. I read the book many years ago and actually thought it was not very good, but I have always thought it was a great premise that could be turned into good tv or movie. So far 4 episodes in I am really digging the show.

Loved the show....though not the ending. Let me know what you think if and when you reach the end.

Will do. I remember not liking the ending of the book either, but don't know if it is the same.
