I understand the problem, I have a Crack the Sky performance from ROSfest that they only provided the surround mix. Just curious what is the source device for your program? I’m having a hard time believing that a televised event wouldn’t have stereo and multichannel audio streams. Anything is possible.
Just watched a great documentary on Big Star on Pluto TV - they also ran a fantastic overview of the Wrecking Crew - that group of session men who played on just about every single, tv jingle, tv theme tune and movie score for a few years from the mid-sixties to the early 70s. The station is called Live Music Replay - most of their broadcasts are replayed a couple of times.
A DVR from my cable co, my TiVo, and my Fire Stick.
I don't know why. An extra audio signal, however small, does require additional bandwidth. All I know is what that engineer from FoxSports told me. I will concede that most of the time I don't have much of an issue anymore so maybe it was an issue when broadcasters were switching to and/or adding multichannel audio signals. But as I also pointed out, sometimes the problem isn't the type of signal from the media company. Sometimes it's just how the sound is mixed before being broadcast.
And then, of course, is an issue I haven't addressed: the sensitivity of microphones. I was talking with Paul Keels, once, who's the official play-by-play announcer for Ohio State football and basketball games. I commented that many times the mix needs adjusted. He told me that most times, announcers aren't in any kind of booth and the mics they use pick up the ambient sound. It's especially problematic in arenas during basketball games but can also be a problem at football games and other loud sporting events with a lot of crowd noise. And there's no fixing that without putting the commentators in a sound proof booth. Altho, now that I think about it, I have a hard time believing there isn't some kind of component or software filter that couldn't fix it in post.
Lastly, I once emailed the local PBS station to complain about their logo in the lower third of the broadcast image on one of their sub-channels. For some reason, it's completely different than the one on their main channel, which is smaller and partially transparent. The one on the sub-channel is opaque and much larger, and if you're watching some show with translation subtitles, those subtitles will get covered over. Turning on CC doesn't fix the problem because the translation subtitles are part of the image and isn't repeated by the CC. Their response? In essence they said they'd look into it. And that was from the station manager. Two years later and nothing's changed. It's both a shame and really stupid because sometimes I used to watch NHK News, a Japanese news service, which was only shown on that particular sub-channel. At least a third of the time the subtitles would get partially covered. And if you think it's only a minor annoyance, consider this example: The Queen was diagnosed with [text blocked by logo].
My point is, it doesn't necessarily matter if the broadcaster knows there's a problem. They may not care.

^^ About a decade or so ago, my local PBS station had audio which was out of sync on some TVs, but not others. After I informed the technical staff of this, it took then forever to finally fix it.

So, in an effort to find someplace to see the Great Britain-Australia women's soccer match tomorrow at the Olympics, I checked out Canada's CBC. Jesus Christ! They're streaming 11 different events simultaneously at the moment. Hell, from midnight until about 9 or 10 tomorrow, they'll be streaming over a two dozen events including all the soccer quarterfinals! I just have to get up at 5am.
Here in the states NBC is showing only two (Canada-Brazil and US-Netherlands). Altho, you can stream the other two after they're over.
Why do so many media companies in the US suck so badly?
Thankfully, I have a VPN and can connect to a server in Canada to watch the CBC. Can't do that with England and the BBC. Not sure how, but they are able to block VPN servers. Mofos.
So fuck NBC and fuck the BBC. The CBC rules!

Yeah, it's really amazing just how awful NBC's coverage has been. A dozen networks + streaming and they still can't seem to figure it out.
We started Ted Lasso last night, and watched the first three episodes. So far, it definitely lives up to the hype. This is the kind of show we need right now, IMO, and Sudeikis just nails it.

My apologies. I was way off in my criticism of NBC.
I watched the first 20 or 30 minutes of that soccer match on the CBC this morning. The problem was there was no play-by-play announcer. Suddenly remembering something, I checked the NBC Sports app and, sure enough, it was being streamed... with an announcer. Not sure why the CBC didn't have one.
However, because that match went into extra time I was a half hour late starting the US-Netherlands match on time, so I checked the CBC's coverage of it and they did have an announcer for it. But, the big difference between the two streaming services is that I could rewind the stream on the CBC up to a half hour and was able to restart the match nearly from the beginning. In fact, on the CBC you can pause, rewind, and fast forward the live stream. On NBC's app you can't for the live stream; only for a replay. Doesn't make sense.
In case anyone is interested, in the Great Britain-Australia match, the Lionesses lost, damnit. But God do I love their striker Ellen White. (<-- spoiler)
And in the US-Netherlands match, the US won in a penalty kick shoot out. Hoo-fucking-ray! I thought for sure they'd lose after the ass kicking they took from Sweden. (<-- spoiler)
And FYI, Vivianne Miedema (Netherlands) smashed Christine Sinclair's (Canada) record of 6 goals scored in a single Olympics. Miedema has scored 10 in just 4 matches, so far.

And this year all the Late Night shows are on hiatus during the Olympics. In years past, David Letterman would feature the "Out of Focus Olympic Highlight of the Night." Out of focus to skirt NBC's copyright.

I"ll give one thing to NBC's coverage of the olympics...I do like how they are putting other things (seemingly about half live) on versus their primetime coverage on the main network. At least I don't reacall them doing this in olympics past. But yeah...way too many repeats for their coverage overall and not enough being featured. Seems like it will only get worse with the dissolution of NBCSN at the end of the year.

I think the main reason for that is that with the 13 hour time difference a lot of the live stuff is happening in that time slot. 11:30PM here in the states is 12:30PM in Japan. In past years that was not always the case.
But in years past, even when there was a half day time difference, Letterman would parody the Olympics.
