We finished Yellowjackets last night. Whew - not what I expected.
~~~Mild spoilers below~~~
I was assuming that this was a one-season, limited series, but there's no way they can just end it like that, right? Way to many loose ends. Hoping for a Season 2.
The wife and I just started watching "You" on Netflix tonight. Digging it so far.
I'm watching Hanna on Amazon Prime. In 3 episodes in. My wife really likes it. For me, not sure.
We discovered there was a season 4 of The Sinner which aired in October that we somehow missed, so we've just started it and it looks to be as intriguing as ever. Bonus for us is that it was filmed in several places in Nova Scotia where we've been on holiday. Particularly Lunenberg, which is a unique place and we recognized it immediately.
Just started watching Reacher on Amazon. Though I'm a fan of the book series I'm a little skeptical about the TV version. The lead actor is definitely eye candy for the ladies, but the way he plays it, it's almost like he's a stone-faced anti-social psychopath, which truth be told he probably is. But it's a bit much of the stare at you intimidation. I wasn't a real fan of the first book, and that's what they are basing this on. The writing got better in the books. I hope the acting gets better here.
I ended up finishing the latest season of Lost in Space last night. My biggest gripe with this show is that the reasons for the big important scenes feel contrived. Actually, it might be more accurate to say that the writing feels lazy. Either that or they're just not smart enough to come up with more plausible reasons. But whatever.
However, like most shows, the reason I usually continue to tune in is because I come to like and even care about some of the characters. And this show can, at times, become touching. So in that respect, I've come to like this show.
I started watching The Silent Sea on Netflix. I was drawn to it because it stars Bae Doona, who was excellent in Sense8. Only one episode in, but it looks interesting.
We've been watching this half hour low stakes dramedy on HBO called Somebody Somewhere. It feels like one of those things that slips under the radar but looks like HBO has already renewed it for a second season. So someone other than just my wife and I are watching it.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
That's a great assessment of the series. The first couple of seasons had many "slightly plausible" edge of your seat moments, but then, as you state, the writing got a bit lazy. I saw it as a pattern rotating between spectacular adventure to family moment to contrived spectacular expedition to family moment to ridiculous escapade. Loved the "family" aspect, disbelieved many of the situations they found themselves in and the following solutions, dug the overarching narrative (which only gets revealed in the last season) and their take on the Robot was kick-ass!
Almost exactly where I landed with this series. Seasons 1 and 2 was a taut, aligned with the movie, story. It could've ended there AFAIC.
Peacemaker New episode last night and I am still on the train with this one. In fact I'm the conductor! Characters are starting to develop and mature, of course in the irreverent nature of the show, and the reveals are rolling to keep it interesting. There isn't a character on the show that doesn't capture my interest while they are on screen.
Well, I suffered through two episodes of Pam & Tommy, but it's truly terrible, and I can't imagine it will suddenly (or even gradually) become excellent. For one thing, it's not a very good story to make a series from (which I thought as soon as I heard about it). Tommy Lee is also an incredible asshole and thus hard to watch. Lily James (who I love) does a terrific job and completely morphs into the role of Pamela Anderson, but she's a bright spot in a complete trainwreck. It's padded with about a dozen song montages per episode - and I'm not exaggerating - which is a sure-fire sign that the script is lacking.
Oh, and that's all before mentioning the painfully lengthy scenes where Tommy talks to his penis, which is a prosthetic that is shown uncomfortably close-up, and turns upwards to talk to him in an intended comedic fashion. Wow, does this thing ever stink.
^ I never could figure out what she saw in him, so when it went tits up (pun intended,) I figured she got what was inevitable. Not like you couldn't see it ahead of time. That doesn't exonerate him, just doesn't excuse stupidity.
No interest in a TV or Movie rendition of the train wreck. Or anything Moldy Crud, for that matter.
Watching 3 series currently on streaming. The already discussed Peacemaker. Its funny and has a good look and the plot doesn't suck. I like it.
Reacher dropped on Prime. I don't know if they did the whole first season at once but I'm 5 episodes in. (as opposed to Peacemaker which is 1 episode every Thursday). Reacher is good. Production values are more than adequite. The acting is good , all characters are engaging. Plot is keeping me interested. This guy FILLS out the Reacher role in a way Cruise was unable physically to do. I think he does a fine job. Another winner , thats 2 including Peacemaker.
The 3rd is the Kristen Bell series , Woman in The Window , whatever the awkward title is. Watched 1st episode , will return after finishing up Reacher. Definite potential and Bell fascinates. She seems to have a knack for ending up in good series. I'll continue.
We finally finished up Sense8 last night. I don't know the history of the show, but Netflix apparently allowed a 2.5 hour finale to give the Wachowskis (or just Lana?) a chance to actually end it in proper fashion. A few loose ends, but overall a satisfying ending. Really enjoyed the story, and the main characters are all likable. If you can stomach very prominent LGBTQ stuff and a lot of nudity and sex, you might want to check this sci-fi-ish series out.
Lee has had 4 wives, all of them gorgeous, plus countless women in addition to those 4. The guy seems to have always been a chick magnet. I read the Motley Cure book “The Dirt” many years ago. They were all scummy characters, at least when they were young and certainly lived the rock n roll lifestyle to the hilt. Lee never had any problem getting about any women he wanted.
