I actually bought the new live Asia!

I stress "actually" because other than buying the first album upon its release and many years later finding the second release used for a buck, I have paid Asia in any of their iterations no heed. I read some reviews of "Resonance" online, found the three-disc set at Newbury Comics for $15 and decided to go for it! I must say I'm enjoying this set much more than I would have anticipated, and had no real expectations (other than John's voice holding up so very well, as I witnessed during the recent UK reunion show I attended), knowing nothing of their more recent material (this set is from the Omega tour apparently). I find the more recent songs to be quite good, the musicianship stellar (though I fast-forward through the drum solo on the DVD), the performance well-polished but energetic. As my people say, "who knew?"

I've come around to this. My thinking now is, we can't always listen to challenging, creative music all the time. A little light fare, a little dumbed down, lowest-common-denominator, corporate AOR can be listenable in small doses. In a guilty pleasure sort of way.

I understand it was filmed with multiple high definition cameras. Unfortunately any concert DVD I buy DTS / 5:1 audio is essential . This is'nt so no buy !
I always flick thru solo·s of any DVD ¡

I hear ya. That's why I've come to love MAGNUM so much. And with them at least, it's not lowest-common-denominator and no guilt necessary.

why is it necessary to diss one band to try and prop up another?

I have no clue what you are accusing me of. I was merely agreeing with N_Singh that corporate/AOR is a nice changeup from Prog sometimes. Whom did I "diss?"

Asia was live on AXS TV a few weeks ago and they played a TERRIFIC set. Wetton still has the pipes and everyone really seemed to be enjoying themselves, even Steve, who was positively radiant when he did his solo bits. Carl's drum solo maybe went on a bit long, but wasn't any less impressive.

After seeing Asia live a month or so ago, I decided to buy this also. I'm not sure who said it (Eddie van Halen maybe??) but "If it sounds good, I'll listen to it." Dumbed down, smarted up, who cares!! This is just good music!

I agree...just a great album. The DVD was disappointing though as I was expecting some sort of 5.1 mix and there was none. And why a DVD is you are using HD cameras? I mean, a Blu Ray is essential when you've already filmed it in HD! So thumbs up for the live CD's, thumbs sideways for the DVD. Great performance, though

Also disappointed in the lack of a 5.1 mix on the DVD. And some of the camera work is dodgy! A shame because the performances are so good!
