    Surprised it hasn't been mentioned.

    RIP Pele.

I'm not much of a soccer fan and I knew who he was 50 years ago. RIP.

When I started following football he had already retired. His active carreer is also not at intensively documented as the one of who came after him. Surely he is one of the all time greats when you like at his titles and statistics.

He never fell of his throne (like Maradonna). He stayed a friendly ambassador for the sport.

The blind pass, played into the perfect position, for Roberto Carlos.

    Dummying the Uruguayan keeper.

The joy of his football - the quintessence of the beautiful game.

Funny story: From 1970 to 1984 I played football in a small town in The Netherlands for the same amateur-club Weghorst started his career (NEO from the city Borne). His father has four brother, one of them was in my class at elementary school. A friend of mine is still active at that club and tells that every time Weghorst is getting a new contract the club gets a piece of the cake because they were part of his football-education.
Wow, the WC seems to have some effect on the career of Weghorst: maybe he'll make a transfer to Manchester United....
