Yesterday evening I converted my old 1984 JVC amp, which gave up the ghost a few years ago, into a night light in the hall to help my sons find the loo in the dark!

I opened the case, cut out all the innards, apart from those keeping the facia and buttons in place and inserted a simple light-bulb fitting with an on/off switch on the cable to the plug.

Thank heavens. I thought this thread was going to be about those gimmicky sound system that were on sale during the 1980s that flashed coloured lights in ime with the music, the colour being according to the bass, mid or treble content.

I had one of those, it was a hard-wired tower system from Amstrad (Alan Sugar's first company i.e. A.M.S. Trading)
