Fight test- Flaming Lips & Father and Son- Cat Stevens (I prefer CS)

That Lady Antebellum song(forgot it's name)and Eye in the sky by Alan Parson's Project- (I prefer APP)

He's so fine-Chiffons and My sweet Lord-George Harrison (Harrison lost in court and all royalties had to go to the Chiffons).

YES- wonderous stories and Alan Parson's Project's don't answer me. I might be the only person to ever notice this. Maybe I have dog ears or something. Lol.

Also, I remember there was a Bruce Springsteen song from a few years ago that had an intro that sounded a bit like Tommy Tutone's big hit Jenny/8765309.

Led Zeppelin- Immigrant Song & Lucifer's Friend ride the sky. The trumpet sound in ride the sky is nicked from IS. Other than that not much of a similarity. Not totally sure which one came out first but I think LZ did.

That's all I can think of for now.

Anyway, I don't hear it in the Frampton song and only hear it in the first few bars in Phantom of the Opera(though I doubt it's an intentional rip off).

I always thought the vocal part of Echoes bore a strong resemblance to the Beatles' Across the Universe.

I don't recall seeing it mentioned anywhere how similar The Wallflowers' "One Headlight" is to bruce Springsteen's "Independence Day", but I swear it's a ripoff.

Also Tears For Fears' "Sowing the Seeds of Love" sound too close to "I Am the Walrus" for comfort.

I had never thought of those, but just checked them out. IMO:

Fight test - Father and son. Coincidence. Best: CS
Wonderous stories - Don't answer me. Coincidence. Best: APP
Immigrant song - Ride the sky. Quotation. Best: LF

Now that you mention Immigrant song, I'll add this:

Immigrant song (Led Zeppelin) - Magic man (Heart). Inspiration. Best: H

The lyrical quotation ("inviting and inciting me") makes it clear that this one was quite intentional.

"R-O-C-K In The USA" John Mellencamp and The Romantics "What I Like About You" Predictable. Don't like either (LOL)

Choros of REM "Shaking Through" and The Eagles "Already Gone" (even does the key change at the end of the song). Probably unintentional copy. Like REM's song best

John Cougar Mellencamp "Hurts So Good" and Henry Lee Summer's "Wish I Had A Girl That Walked Like That". Probably unintentional plaigerism. Dont care for either

AC/DC intro "For Those About To Rock" and Kenny Chesney intro "Live A Little". Intentional sound alike (modern country formula). AC/DC

Any AC/DC song 79/82 and Randy Houser "How Country Feels" Intentional sound alike (modern country formula). AC/DC

    theres a ton more

Is this heavily based on a specific PF tune, or is it in the spirit of old PF? I don't know enough about their early work.

The intro sounds like it might be inspired by the intro of "Astronomy Domine," and the descending bit with the frantic toms sounds like a bit of a mash-up of "Interstellar Overdrive" with a couple of other things ("Set the Controls"? "Saucerful"?).

The mentioning of The Beatles "I am the walrus" reminds me of another one. The intro is pretty much the same as the Screaming Trees- "all I know." Check it out.

The Byrds thread made me think of this:

Leonard Cohen "Suzanne" -> Leonard Cohen "Hey, That's No Way to Say Goodbye" (self-plagiarism) -> Goffin-King/Byrds "Wasn't Born to Follow"

I think you just unconsciously plagiarized posts #1 and #2 in this thread.

Just thought of a few more

Ray Parker Jr. "Ghostbusters" and Huey Louis " I Want A New Drug". Not sure. Prefer Huey Louis
ELO "Mister Kingdom" and The Beatles "Across The Universe". Probably meant as a hat-tip but became more of a rip-off. I like both equally
The Offspring "Why Dont You Get A Job" and The Beatles "“Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”. Probably unintentional subliminal. The Beatles
ELO "Showdown" and Marvin Gaye "I Heard it Through The Grapevine". Hat-tip. I like both equally
Neal Young "Heart of Gold" and Scott McKenzie' "San Francisco". Coincidence. Scott McKenzie
VERSE of "21 Guns" by Green Day and "San Francisco" by Scott McKenzie OR "Heart of Gold" by Neal Young. IMHO blatant ripoff. Scott McKenzie
CHORUS of "21 Guns" by Green Day and chorus of ELO's "Telephone Line". IMHO blatant ripoff. ELO

Not a fan of either, but I'll go with The Breeze by Lynyrd Skynyrd and One Way Out by The Allman Brothers Band. In all honesty, I don't know if it's intentional and can't bring myself to care.

As far as I'm concerned, you can misspell Huey Lewis's name all you want.

    I can't stand the prick.
