You would and should be, as they are one of the greatest live rock groups around. Seriously. Such a massive force of sound.

The presale for the upcoming Motorpsycho album, The Tower, will begin this coming Thursday, August 10th at 9:00 a.m. There will be three different formats available: a double CD, a double LP on black vinyl and a limited double LP on gold vinyl. Both LP versions will have a very special fold-out cover, so the price is slightly higher than usual (for us) for a standard double LP. Furthermore, all mailorder customers will also receive a download code with their vinyl version, which will not be available when buying the album in a shop or other online mailorder.

Christ, haven't they released three albums just along the course of this thread already?!

The gold vinyl edition sold out within hours, both at Rune and Stickmen.
    Looking forward to it.

Surprise! It has arrived straight from Stickman today!

So far (four songs into the first disc) no shocks, typical Psychonauting, maybe a little more groovy and riff orientated than the last few. (These are not negative comments, simply observations.)

The Tower is currently reveiving ace reviews here in the ol' land. Biggest Norwegian daily had esteemed jazz (and rock) recensionist Svein Andersen awarding it full house. He very rarely does that. Sum reads "despite the synths and pedals and mellotrons and the Yes/King Crimson echo, there's little corny bombast".

Have to say that I skipped the previous couple of releases, but I'm getting this double muffa on vinyl.

I've had a couple of spins so far, and I'll write some deeper impressions when I'm typing rather than tapping, but I'd say Monsters is a better album. I wouldn't skip anything the band does (I think this thread proves that), but I'd grab the previous album before this one, regardless of how much of a muffa it is or however many Norwegians hate Yes on their way to apologetically liking an album that bears absolutely no resemblance to anything Yes has ever done.

But he is right, I suppose: There is no corn in the bombast on this album. Not even a hint of dairy, either.

Either way, muffa is enuffa in da puffa-corn born a porn stuffa. And it not sound like Yes but Yaz. Not jazz but jizz.

That too. Just don't get any jizz in your corn puffs, and don't get any porn on your cuffs.

So the standout tracks are, so far, on the second disc.

"A Pacific Sonata" starts off with some nice easy breezy California hippy drip. Rather similar to "Sleepwalking" from the last album. Then it locks into a pretty forceful groove. New drummer Tomas Jarmyr shows a little more swing then Kapstad, but his playing is similar enough that if you blinked, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference. Anyway, the song builds and build. You expect it to break. Solo? Chorus? Something? How about a compounding of instruments? Vibes (or maybe a celeste?), guitars, BASS pedals, Mellotron--the thing is relentless. It'll be a monster live. (Looked around the YouTube and didn't find it.)

"The Maypole" and "Stardust" sound like they could've come off of Phanerothyme. In fact, there's probably more hippy moments (again, see "A Pacific Sonata"s first half) on this album than the past few: the flute solo on "In Every Dream Home"; the 'tron washes on "The Cuckoo."

There's a really swell singalong on "A.S.F.E" (a song for everyone) that's pretty goshdarn infectious. "Ship of Fools" uses lots of Mellotron to build. There are heavy Sabbath like riffs (the opening of "Bartok"). There's some usual Psychonaut type exploration of fuzzy bass and bad ass guitar solos ("Intrepid Explorer"). Ryan, as should be expected, gets quite a few nice solos in before all's said and done.

Alain Johannes (??) guests on a few tracks, and the liner notes mention an "original plan" that the band would like to explore "some other time" with him. I'm assuming then we'll see something with him on it in the future. Given that the band releases 10-15 albums a year, that should be soon . . .

I think there's something on here for every Motorpsycho fan (and probably a lot of ProgEarers in general).

    This album rawks...

I do hear a Pawn Hearts-like ending on one track.

So it sounds like, if I'm reading that correctly, the CD set can be purchased separately from the LP set. This is a good thing.

I haven't had any luck finding it on "funde.no" yet. Refresh refresh refresh . . .
