Thread: NBA Basketball Thread

I was listening to a little sports radio this morning. Someone called in who took his wife, son and four other children or friends to the Caps/Cavs game last night spending $2000. They also had friends come up from the Carolina's as well. It was a birthday gift for his son to see LeBron play. Ticket prices are double or maybe triple the price when the LeBron plays and he was a healthy scratch. Without LeBron the Cavs could be the worst team out there. I think the Capitals owe this family and anyone else who came the difference back from what they usually charge. I'm sure every team probably does the price gouge thing.

This is truly magical and more so in that it is happening here in the Bay Area.
And their record now sits at 53-5, including a perfect 24-0 at home. And considering that 17 of their remaining 24 games are at home you have to really wonder how high they can go. Is 75 wins attainable?

San Antonio, meanwhile, is 50-9 and also a perfect 28-0 at home, and they still play each other three more times (twice in San Antonio). I don't think any team has ever gone 41-0 at home but one or both of them could this year.

Looks like Lebron is about to have a major meltdown in Cleveland. I'm loving it.

I certainly hope that you're right, but I'm seeing a team that only plays defense in spurts, and is far too likely to fall back on isolation play on offense. Cleveland sports talk radio calls it the "stanky leg," and nobody likes it, except apparently LeBron and Kyrie. Earlier in the year, they were moving the ball regularly and looked great.

They have the personnel and the coaching, but they are not mentally tough, and they fall back into old habits. I would like them against San Antonio, but unless they change the way they play at both ends of the court, they have no chance against Golden St.

We won, but still, letting the worst team in the league come back like that makes me wonder how good or bad they (The Heaters) are.

Certain to make Sportscenter's highlights later:

23 seconds into the 2nd half, the Raptors @ Bucks game was delayed for almost 5 minutes while the staff finished cleaning up the emisis (vomit or puke for those who learned a word tonight) from one of the half-time performers that they thought they had cleaned up completely, until a player came close to tweaking an ankle.

The Heat are putting some heat on the Cavs. It's only the third quarter but we're up by twenty some odd points.

Yeah, I gave up on watching the Cavaliers embarrass themselves yet again and switched to Golden St-San Antone. The 2016 Cavaliers are the most overrated team in NBA history.

I was impressed by our rebounding and defense. We scored a lot too.

Do the 76's really only have nine wins.

You can't win too many when you're playing to get the first pick in the draft.

They do, but you have to maximize your probability.

Not really following the Bucks that much this year ever since it was apparent that the playoffs ain't happening, but sitting in a restaurant earlier tonight at the bar watching the Milw-Orlando game (Bucks won by 3), I realized (only 76 games into the season) that they are a very good to almost elite team on paper in terms of talent, but the fuckers play like collective graduates of the University of Mediocre.

I haven't paid attention to them, but coming into the season, they were supposed to be among the up and comers. What the hell happened? And I haven't heard jack about Jabari Parker this year.

We now see how important Bogut and Iggy are to the Warriors. They are the defensive anchors for the team and without them they can only rely on offense.

So, can you tell the difference?

    Player A:
Career averages of 19.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, with a .532 career FG% and 548 games played in an injury-riddled 8-year career.
    5-Time All-Star
0 NBA Championships, 1 Conference Finals Appearance, 3 50+ Win Seasons

    Player B:
Career averages of 19.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, with a .524 career FG% and 486 games played in an injury-riddled 8-year career.
    6-Time All-Star
0 NBA Championships, 0 Conference Finals Appearances, 4 50+ Win Seasons

Believe it or not, Player B (Yao Ming) is now in the Hall of Fame, while Player A (Brad Daugherty) remains largely forgotten.

Golden State's quest for the record 73 wins just got a whole lot tougher after losing their second home game of the year last night. At 69-9 they would need to win their final four games, which includes two against San Antonio (who are still perfect at home).

Um, not that a 71 or 72 win season would be anything to feel bad about!
