I've had some beers like that. Sometimes I like to split one with someone else and just sip them from a glass. Not always due to high alcohol percentage, but sometimes when there's so much flavor a little goes a long way.

I have some Founders Imperial Stout here at my house this weekend which is 10 point something percent....and to me it is okay, but doesn't cover up the alcohol taste quite enough.
The Higher Math tasted very strong and very sweet, like a syrupy barleywine, I'd never normally drink anything like that other than as a sampler to see what it's like.

The Dogfish Head Hoo Lawd was also something I'd only sample rather than drink, its 658 ibu's, the hoppiest beer ever sold.

Wow! Having a hard time imagining that one.

Pre-Super Bowl lunch today @ Arizona Wilderness Brewery http://www.azwbeer.com/...

Granola Stout 8.0% - Brown sugar, oats, and chocolate malts compliment this stout....

Aravaipa Abbey Dubbel 6.3% - Second in our Monastic Series this Dubbel has malt notes of light chocolate and caramel that pair with dark fruit esters of plums, figs, and dates.

    20160207_143523.jpg

Honorable mention but the picture wouldn't post...Head of Helios 4.8% - Citra and Centennial Hops showcase the unique quality of Brettanomyces in this Pale Ale.

I'm going to Chicago to see a band and then stopping off at 8 microbreweries along the highway returning to Canada. I'm avoiding hitting ones in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids as I want to spend 2 days doing those cities.

Just bought an IPA from Hawaii called Kona castaway and is supposed to taste of mango, passion fruit and citrus.
    Time will show.

I live in Kalamazoo so if you need any tips just say the word. There are a lot of great breweries along the I-94 corridor in Southwest Michigan along with the 10 we have in Kalamazoo and the ones in Grand Rapids.

Just bottled a Belgian Tripel this morning. 2 weeks to go in the bottle before it is fully carbonated, but just tasting the flat beer today I think it should settle and blend nicely.

My wife and I went to the Twin Cities this past weekend. Usually I hit one of the big micro-brew stores and stock up but this time a couple friends gave me this rather impressive stash of brews. Some of these I have just single bottles of, some I've got several more of. Either way, I've got a lot of drinking to do. So I wrote up this post on my blog giving all the details.

I got a bunch of nice bomber bottles for my B day this past Saturday.....drank the Delerium Tremens first, with my son, on my B Day, and had a Casey Jones Imperial IPA a couple days back. Have a couple more Imperial IPA's, plus a Maximus, a Stone Smoked Porter and some other stuff.....

Nope - it was okay, but the scent of tropical fruits, doesnt belong there - and other qualities were missing.

Picked up a case of Fat Head's Hop Juju Imperial IPA tonight. It won it's 2nd Gold Medal at last year's GABF, and is a seasonal brew that's gone in a flash, hence the purchase of a case.

Tried Bitches Brew Imperial Stout from Dogfish Head last night at my local beer bar. Tremendously good, even though I'm not a fan of the Miles Davis album. The album is too edgy for my taste, the beer was smooth as silk, heavy, creamy, yummy.

The New Prog Beer Snob Thread

I had a sampler with Cambridge, MD's RAR brewery 3870 and it was delicious.
This big brew’s name is derived from the exact mileage to Chimay Belgium from Cambridge Maryland, in honor of those that pioneered the style centuries ago. Medium brown in color with distinctive Trappist-Style esters on the nose, this dark strong ale takes you on a Belgian tour of flavor. Massive notes of raising and fig dominate the palate until met with undertones of molasses and dough. THe finish is typical per style with a delicate candy sweetness.

I think this could be my favorite Belgium style.

Enjoyed a Collective Arts Ransack The Universe IPA, followed by lunch and then a Kasteel Donker Quadrupel from Van Honsebrouck, which made for a tasty dessert, and did not taste like the 11% that it was... normally I'd say that's dangerous, but I can't drink more than one of those in a sitting anyway.

Drinking IPAs so far tonight, (imagine that.) First up was Victory Dirt Wolf Double IPA, which was pretty mediocre, tbh. Next was Clown Shoes Galactica IPA, which was a bit different for the style, but pretty good. Then my first bottle of this year's release of Fat Head's Hop Juju...OMFG..Matt Cole is the god of hop-forward brewing, and this year's edition is spectacular, as you would expect. Not sure what's up next...

I've never had a Hop Juju but it has a great reputation. I do like Dirt Wolf & Clown Shoes. I just had a Pot & Kettle Porter from the excellent Trillium brewery.

I live a mile from the brewery so swing round there, there's always a line of people.
