Canton or Boston? Boston is just a walk in to buy beer, no tasting or tours. Beer is outstanding, I live a mile from the Boston Trillium.

We picked today, Sunday, to go. Should have checked their website for the Canton hours. Closed on Sundays.

Tried the Anger Black IPA from Greenbush Brewery. Honestly one of the best, most balanced black IPAs I've ever had.

Agreed, that stuff is awesome. One of the best Black IPA's around IMO. Greenbush is really an up and comer here in the Southwest Michigan brewery scene. They have come a long way in a fairly short period of time. All of their beers are good to great.

Where is that brewery from, I don’t recognize it? The can says Black Ale which is a different style to Black IPA, kind hard to read though, so maybe I am not seeing it right.

The brewery is Indeed, out of the Twin Cities. It is indeed an IPA but it's not clear on the can. Beer Advocate gives it a 90

I am heading to Portland Maine for my 30th Anniversary trip at the end of this month to indulge in nonstop Lobster and Beer. There are about 25 brew pubs in Portland along with several bigger names like Alagash, Oxbow, Shipyard (which is right next door to our hotel) Sabago and many more. I'll keep a score card for the week.

Last time I was in Portland Maine I was recommended to visit Foundation which is across the road from Allagash, unfortunately it was too busy for me to get in.

Wifey and I were there a month ago. Good beer town. You'll also find some good record stores and a meadery (http://www.mainemeadworks.com/). Good stuff.

That place is already on our list, but not for the Mead or Cider, but more for the Kombucha they make. We have a full size fridge in our room and I am bringing 3 empty coolers for Beer, Cider, Kombucha and Cabbott Cheese. The only annex outside of Vermont is 5 blocks from our hotel. We usually hit the one in Stowe every year.

I have a couple of questions for my American beerheads.

In the USA, it is not mandatory to put the alcohol percentage on the label?

Have microbrews started putting the IBU on the label?

Here, it is law to show the alcohol percentage and most microbrewers will put the IBU on the label, 2 very important factors for me when buying beer.

I don't think you're legally required to put ABV, and I know you're not required to put IBU's,......many breweries do indicate both, but more often I see ABV.

I'm sure ABV labeling rules are different state to state. Beers which distribute to many states, will have ABV labeled. IBU I believe is strictly voluntary.

I know IBU is voluntary I was merely asking if it's commonplace. To me, it's an indispensable bit of information.

Very common on the draft boards in taprooms. On bottles, not so much.

True, but it seems to be getting more common, at least here in Michigan. Alcohol content I am seeing more and more as well.

I find the ABV to be absolutely indispensable for all beer that I buy. I find the IBU specifically important for IPAs. My ideal IPAs are usually in the 6.5% to 8.0% ABV with IBUs of anywhere from 55 to 80. Anything beyond that usually brings us in the realm of Double IPAs, which are good, but not my favorites.
