I'm as guilty as anyone for posting obits which have meaning mainly to me. Perhaps we should have one RIP thread and everyone post to that thread. No more arguments, no moe duplicate threads - if you don't wanna read it - don't.

RIP individual RIP threads, with moaning and rending of garments.
RIP lizard. That lizard that I shook out of my pants a couple weeks ago died in a bar.

Somewhere in between being an AM top 40 Jock going by "Scotty Wainwright" and being a convicted kiddie diddler, this guy had a good radio career going. It was thru him that I found out about UK and Klaus Schulze, and I recall once he announced the new Paul McCartney single, played it, and when it was over said, "Well, that blows." (I don't remember which one)
RIP Hagrid! N-oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooo!
Sad loss, Robbie Coltrane was a very funny guy and a great actor. I remember he used to come see my band perform in a bar on Byres Rd in Glasgow in the early 80s. This was round about when he was appearing on The Young Ones and the classic drama about a Scottish rock n roll band “Tutti-Frutti”. RIP Mason Boyne.
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF STUPID PEOPLE IN LARGE GROUPS!
I remember Robbie Coltrane from the Prime Suspect series. He was very good.
Very sorry to report the passing of a close friend yesterday. You may or may not have heard of him his name was Neville Chesters. His life story is the stuff of legend which his Wiki page only touches on.
1963-64 road manager for the Merseybeats
1965-66 road manager for the Who
1967 - while staying in a flat in London with fellow Yorkshireman Lemmy Kilmister and Irish guitarist Noel Redding, Noel got a call from Chas Chandler asking if he could play bass as he had a new American guitarist who was putting a band together. Redding said yes, and offeredNeville as road manager with Lemmy pitching in he could help too - so off they went to meet Chandler and his find - a certain Jimi Hendrix with whom he set up to tour later in the year.
Later in 1967 he worked with Cream and The Bee Gees as part of Robert Stigwood’s operation.
Later still he worked for Brian Epstein doing various jobs including chauffeuring John Lennon.
1967 to 1968, he worked as the road manager for Hendrix, with gigs all over Europe and the States. He left the band when Hendrix became more US-centric and changed his band members.
1968-69 back to working with the Beatles Apple Records for Peter Asher
1972 he was back on the road, this time as personal road manager for Greg Lake.
1973-74 He was instrumental in getting Stray Dog signed to ELP’s Manticore Records - Snuffy Walden being a friend of his. He toured widely with the band.
He took a rest for a few years selling antiques in London.
1990 he moved to New York and started working in producing porn movies-as Neville Chambers. He had a loft in New York which was known officially as “the Loft” but in the business as the Fuck Factory. He released many porn movies, even starring in them occasionally. The business stuttered as the center of porn moved to LA and hand-held video cameras made porn producers of anybody with a camera and a willing couple(or more).
After that he took life much more slowly, doing occasional interviews and some light roadying work with New York based musicians like Jon Paris and Alan Merrill(of the Arrows and author of I Love Rock n Roll).
I actually met him when he came to fix a problem I had with my roof. When he heard my accent he started telling me his life story. We became fast friends over the following years as his health began to fail him - years of barbiturate abuse taking it’s toll - the drug of choice of the always-on-the-road road crews.
In the late 2000 teens he hooked up again with Pete Townsend and Townsend arranged and paid for him to fly back to London for treatment.
Settling in Milton Keynes, Neville worked with Malcolm Bruce - son of Jack Bruce, and got reacquainted with the family of Jim Marshall - founder of Marshall Amps who are now also based in Milton Keynes.
The last I heard from him he was going in for some tests about 6 weeks ago. I just heard the news from his girlfriend about an hour ago.
Neville lived an amazing life and I will miss him and his amazing stories.
