It is going to be ugly. My only hope is that we get through that game without losing any key players before we get back to playing in our own weight class.

You just gave me another idea for Crazy Football Rules.

It's a list I'm compiling of silly, crazy rules that my cousin and I have been coming up with, over the years. I should post it sometime.

Alright. I should warn you, tho, they're pretty silly and crazy:

If, on a kickoff, the kicker puts the ball through the uprights, the kicking team scores 2 points. Possession goes to the receiving team.

If a team gets three "half the distance to the goal" penalties in one series of downs, the opponent scores 2 points. Penalized team retains possession.

If a team is penalized with the call, "false start, everyone but the center," the offense must sideline one player for the next play.

During a punt, if a player on the punting team catches the ball and the ball is caught at least 30 yards down field, the punting team gets possession.

The width of the goal posts will be determined by the distance the scrimmage line is to the goal line. From 1 to 15 yards out, the goal posts will be 15 feet apart and extend an additional 3 feet for every 7 yards beyond the 15 yard line, to a maximum width of 30 feet at the 50 yard line and beyond.

Any field goal scored beyond the 60 yard line scores 5 points.

Any team that scores from their own end zone scores 9 points.

When a Power 4 Conference team is playing a Group of 5 team, the Group of 5 team gets to play with an extra player. [does not apply to playoffs]

In each half, each team will get one down, at any time of their choosing, where the total number of players is reduced to 12, making the game 6 vs 6 for that one play.

If, during a field goal attempt by the home team, the kicker hits one of the uprights and does not score, any fan of the away team gets $20 worth of concessions, paid for by the home team's athletic department. [to prevent people from lying about their affiliation, the person declares they're a fan of the away team upon entering the venue and is then given a ticket to redeem at the concession stand should this event occur]

If a referee makes a bad call that is overturned, the school band of the team that was erroneously penalized gets to go out onto the field and play their team's fight song while the drum major yells insults at the referee. The referee, however, may choose to run a lap around the field in lieu of being insulted.

As you can probably guess, these rules were created during boring games and/or we were drunk and/or high.

Opening point spread is OSU -36.5. I took WMU +24.5 last week and won the bet. Thinking about doing it again. It may depend on whether WMU's #1 receiver is back from injury or not as that really impacted their passing game last week.

I ended up getting WMU +38.5 which I thought was a good price although I still do not have a lot of confidence.

Hal.... please try not to put too many of our players in the hospital tonight. We still have a long season

Northern Illinois upsets #5 Notre Dame, at Notre Dame. 1st win over a top 10 team in school history.

Loosing their head coach, assistants and many players to the portal /NFL did not help. This is a very different team from last year.

Notre Dame got a big MAC attack. Bowling Green almost knocked off Penn State today too.

So Notre Dame lost. Couldn't happen to a nicer team.

But FFS. I work at NIU and I can just imagine some of my co-workers are going to be talking shit, come Monday.

And, no, I have no loyalty to that school. Hell, I often wear Ohio Univ or Ohio State t-shirts to work.

My first opportunity to see this year's Buckeyes, since I was at ProgDay last week. Team speed is incredible. This freshman receiver Jeremiah Smith looks like Marvin Harrison 2.0. Howard is an upgrade from McCord at QB. Chip Kelly's play calling is a master class. This team is l-o-a-d-e-d. Gonna be a fun year.

OSU does look pretty incredible tonight. WMU is playing without their #1 RB, #1WR and #1 kicker, but I don’t think it would make any difference. OSU is just stacked at every position. WMU is receiving 1.8 Million to be humiliated. For a MAC team, that is a lot of money, but not sure that it is worth it.

406 yards in the first half. 11+ per play. WMU is one of the better MAC teams, aren't they?

Hard to say exactly how good they are. They are on the 2nd year under a re-build with new coach Lance Taylor and were only 4-8 last year. On paper they should be a better team this year. Pre-season polls had them finishing 4th or 5th in the conference so kind of middle of the MAC pack.

My personal pre-season prediction for WMU was 7-5 with a bowl game. I still think that is possible once they get back to fighting in their own weight class and if they can get some of their key injured players back. I doubt they will be contenders for the MAC championship though.

I was really impressed by OSU tonight. They appear to have no weaknesses and are extremely deep in talent. I have a feeling they are going to own the Big 10 this year.

my FB reels have been inundated with App St -v- Michigan "biggest upset in Michigan history" video shorts, perpetrated mostly by ND fans. This ought to shut them the fuck up.

I am not even sure it is the biggest upset in Northern Illinois history. A lot of people don't remember but back in 2003 Northern Illinois beat Alabama in their stadium. Northern Illinois is a perpetual MAC power and has had some very good teams over the years.
