Had my follow-up knee revision surgery this morning. Still in the hospital floating on pain meds, but everything went well and the biggest thing is there is no sign that the infection is still present. Should be going home tomorrow and then the re-hab starts.

Had my first occupational therapy session for my left pinky. I lacerated it in September and now the upper knuckle doesn't work. Doc's think I didn't sever tendons....they think the scar tissue is restricting tendon movement so have "pinky exercises" to help restore tendon movement. This is costing my $90.00 per session! Found out my insurance doesn't cover Occupational Therapy.....only for children under the age of 7.

Physical therapy continues to restore function to the left arm. Life is a bit different now.....still doesn't stop me from pulling holiday decorations down from the attic and stringing lights under the eaves. It just takes a little longer now......that finger laceration was caused by impatience.

I just found out earlier that my mother's next door neighbor, Mark, passed away apparently from a heart attack. He was maybe in his mid to late 60s (not that old). He was a good guy and liked cats (he had one or two of his own plus an outdoor feral cat). He will be missed. RIP Mark.

I just found out today way too long after the fact that a former boss passed away. I had heard he had a stroke a while back and was just thinking of him. He was a great guy and gave me a big hug when I turned in my resignation. He was 68.

A decade or so ago my Dad's former boss was killed driving on the freeway. By a large truck wheel and tire, which fell of the back of a truck that was transporting it.

I forgot to mention he was an FB friend. The weird thing was he was posting on facebook probably less than two hours before he died.

One of our neighbors was driving down the highway when some kind of hook thing broke off of a truck and tore the roof off of their car. If it had hit the car a few inches differently they might have been killed. Luckily, they were able to get the car off the road and had no injuries, but their car was totaled.

My wife and daughters had the same thing about 12-or-so years ago.

On an interstate, an 18-wheeler lost its rear bumper thingie at 70+ mph. A huge, heavy metal beam, the width of the trailer, with the mudflaps attached. It bounced over the car ahead of them and hit our car on the grille then went over the roof. Same thing - a few inches higher, and it would have gone through the windshield, and taken them out!
    Regards,

    Duncan

Ran over a metal walk plank from a truck in the tunnel. Didn't have time to look left to change lanes and didn't want to chance changing lanes and causing a massive accident. Blew out a rear tire and dented the rear quarter panel. Old truck so the panel didn't matter and changed tires after getting out of the tunnel.

3 close calls on the Harley…. Semi tire blowout….both times the car next to me took the brunt of the tire fragments. Freeway through Salt Lake City……rear bumper of semi came loose and fell off the next lane over. I didn’t see it but saw the sparks emitted from it as I passed it in the next lane over.

I myself had a close call on the freeway, driving on a stretch crossing an indigenous nation. A dump truck suddenly slammed on the brakes, with tires smoking. Three dogs had just wandered onto the freeway. Everybody else swerved to avoid the truck and each other. I myself steered off onto the left shoulder. What could've very easily caused a chain reaction crash ended with no collisions whatsoever. An HOV lane has since been added to the freeway. In a similar event, I would've swerved into the HOV lane, possibly colliding with a vehicle in that lane.

And then there's an an absolutely incredible story. A decade and a half ago, a woman was driving her lifted four wheel drive truck on a curvy section of freeway. Somebody forced her off the road. She flipped the truck over the center dividing wall. The truck rolled across every lane of opposing traffic, landed on its roof, and caught on fire. She walked away without a scratch. Everybody on scene told her she should go to the casino just a few miles to the west. She called her husband who was serving in Iraq. Saying "Before I tell you what happened, you need to know I'm perfectly fine." The burn mark remained in that spot for the longest time. Until the rubberized asphalt was replaced on the entire stretch.

BTW: that casino is located on the same indigenous nation, very close to where I had my near miss.

That's why it's important to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you.
