Fantastic news!! I've had the boot of this for a while, thanks to Dime. It will be great to upgrade to a legitimate issue. Not sure I need the LPs, but details...

I also grabbed the DVD (and many other great Rockpalast shows) from Dime, and I've enjoyed watching it several times. May have to grab this set...

LPs? Arggggghhhhhh! I will probably just be happy with my boot DVD and an "illegal" download of the audio of this, because I don't want to pay for useless vinyl.
Guess I'll wait to see how fondleable the set is...

Thanks for the info - look forward to hearing more.

PLease tell me the DVD will be Region 0. I Remember a box being put out of all of Rory Gallagher's Rockpalast performances, but it was region 2 only.

    Google Translate suggested the following:

    "Love Grobschnitt friends ...

Even though hardly anyone was expecting it, we finally made it true and realized the long-awaited Rockpalast project. under the title "SOLAR MOVIE" the new limited Grobschnitt box set appear on the Brain label of Universal Music On October 28, 2016th The heart of this limited seven-Box is of course the complete Rockpalast from 08 December 1978 in the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund. Overall, the seven-part box includes:

    - Remastered HD video DVD from Rockpalast (85 min.) + Solar Movie (56 min.)
    - Remastered audio CD (79:10 min.) From the Rockpalast concert
    - Colored 180-gram vinyl 33 RPM (54:36 min.) With Solar Music from Rockpalast
    - Audio CD with Solar Music from Berlin plus 2 bonus tracks (79:10 min.)
    - Colored 180-gram vinyl 33 RPM with Solar Music from Berlin (52:08 min.)
    - 48-page booklet in LP format with photos and memorabilia
    - Colored solar Movie Art Print

When planning the project quickly matured the decision to publish more than a purist standard DVD with some live photos. And that is why the Rockpalast box is not only the detailed story about our appearance at WDR, but also an image of the entire Grobschnitt year 1978. Many of you who were there at that time will certainly remember yet: We published with "Solar Music Live "our first live album ever and played in the same year a total of 95 concerts. No other title has inspired us more and brought so many goose bump moments. The crowning Tour Finals and the famous icing was on top then the appearance at the Rockpalast. Precisely in the same hall in which we had already played for four weeks earlier as part of our tour to a full house.

We have polished up the sound from the Rockpalast recording in the best possible way. Especially the many noise in quiet passages we could eliminate through meticulous craftsmanship with digital tools. At the end we were surprised at how transparent, trouble-free and broad is the soundtrack now comes out of the speakers, even though the original recording's in mono. In addition, we have worked so hard on the sound that over long distances even actually true stereo is now heard. The image quality compared to the original decisively improved through the intensive restoration of video specialists. Never could Grobschnitt Rockpalast so hear and see how now! We will shortly describe on our website some processes of this interesting and extensive restoration in detail.

The second highlight is the CD2 with "Solar Music" from the Latin Quarter in Berlin on 26 March 1978. The recording was in 1978 on the shortlist for the "Solar Music Live" album and was released in 2003 in a small number on a sampler , In this recording, we all have control again set to "NULL" and all disorders and crackling away in months of work at each track, optimizes the sound, designed the effects new and everything again remixed last but with the technical means of today , On the CD2 Additional facilities include two bonus tracks: a remix from the 1978 concert from Wesel and neubearbeiteter Mix entitled "Solar Conclusion".

The special feature of the "Solar Music Remix" from Berlin but the visual "Solar Movie" staging by Scottish artists John McGeoch light. The 56-minute musical DVD Cinema spectacle takes you on a colorful journey into the imagination. has The unique mix of live music and moving pictures of "Solar Music in Wonderland" and puts it on a par with the video from the Rockpalast. This image animations really can not be described in words ...

The total length of the DVD is over 140 minutes and the two CDs each, as always with us, 79:10 minutes. And we have also thought of the many vinyl lovers. Both Solar Music versions, there is also an excellent sound quality as colored vinyl editions. To allow for a length of over 27 minutes per side at all, we had indeed the characteristic grooves omitted, but it was worth it. A 48-page booklet in LP format with many small and large stories, and an extravagant Solar Movie Art Print complete the box.

After more than a year of work, we have finally arrived at the destination. We are glad that we have published the Rockpalast project not sooner. Much of what we achieved now would, had never come to mind and not have been possible. And we know the good fortune last year John McGeoch. Last but not least, also accompanied our Major Company the very costly production again benevolently. More can not ask ...

We wish you much joy in listening, reading, watching and remembering!

    Greetings from the Grobschnitt Crew

    Erke, Lupo and Willi"

I could do without the vinyl, especially when they add nothing to the CD's. I have the Rockpalast concert recorded from television and burned on de DVD-R.

I don't need vinyl either, but I am happy to buy the set nonetheless. Looks lovely.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

I think I'll pass. As much as I love Grobschnitt, I'm not sure how many versions of Solar Music I need.

Think I will too... I was going to go ahead despite the useless vinyls, but not at this price

I'd rather it be cheaper obviously...but we'll see.

For me personally...I would rather support the band than retain illegal/downloaded copies. And in the long haul, I won't be thinking about the $$ when I'm enjoying the CDs & DVD, or admiring the vinyl-sized packaging. I'll just be enjoying the music and film for what they are. Not judging anyone else or suggesting anyone is wrong for passing on the price though.

We'll have to see how Eroc handled the sonics... From memory, it seems he's made some pretty bad choices on some remasters over the years

As for your illegal copies, you're most likely bound to keep them, or else you'll release them on the second-hand market too.

I bought the 79:10 box, have several archival releases, have several albums on vinyl, had allready several albums on CD, so I don't think anyone can accuse me for not supporting the group, but I have a limited income and there is always more music to buy. So yes, I have recorded something that was broadcasted on German television. Should I really go and spend another 120 euro's for a bunch of stuff I allready own? I'm sorry, I'll do it as soon as I win a grand price in the lottery, or earn enough money with my own music.

I think the whole "including LPs with CDs" thing has just become the next step after InsideOut starting to release all the DVD sets with CDs. Producing, say...3 CDs, and expanding the packaging probably costs InsideOut very little, but allows them to charge something like $45 for a DVD/3CD set as opposed to about $18 or $20 for just one DVD.

Now, throw in 2LPs in addition to a couple of CDs and a DVD or Blu-Ray, for example, and suddenly it's a 12" x 12" boxed set that instead of selling for $45 sells for $140.

F that! IMO that's an invitation to look for a torrent.

If this was just a DVD and two CDs in a fat jewel case, would ANYONE pay $120 for it? To me, that's essentially what it is. I have no use for the vinyl, and while the packaging looks nice, I have no great need for more photos of Grobschnitt.

I'm telling you, it's including the vinyl that ALLOWS them to charge $120 as opposed to $40. I think a law should be passed that vinyl can't be sold in the same package as any other type of recorded media (CDs, DVDs, BDs, etc.)!

One type of recorded media per package! That's my rallying cry!

I can agree that it seems that the vinyls are the things that inflate the price to unrealistic amounts...

Indeed if for the two CDs + the DVD, + booklet, I'd have forked out 40.00, despite owning the boot DVD and three versions of SML so far

I think this one will backfire on them. With the King Crimson box sets, you can pay around $120 for something like 17 disks. This set is $120 for 3 disks and 2 plastic waffles!

Anyhoo...I received my copy of the Solar box last week courtesy of Chez Wayside.

I like it. Doubtful I'll ever do more than pull the vinyl from the sleeve and oogle the lovely color (which IS lots of fun, to be fair), but the CDs and DVD are terrific. The DVD is NTSC, not PAL, and looks excellent.

Not for everybody. But I'm glad to have it.

Is the DVD a substantial improvement over the boot?

I've never seen the boot, so I really can't say. For what it is, I think it looks great (i.e. we aren't talking hi-def perfection here, but it is still really great IMHO).
