Where would this USB/Halloween costume set fit in on the album charts if it was going to chart?
Listened to a lot of it. Great band, but the shows are very repetitive. This is not my favorite Zappa period, so I would have been happy with "Zappa in New York".
Been hittin' some FZ vault releases from the last 10-15 years. Lots of goodies. What are some of your fav releases since around 2000-ish?

Buffalo.
Whatever I say here won’t quite persuade anyone, and I’m fine with that, but I adore Zappa’s vocal arrangements. I’ve never cared what was actually sung; the lyrics hardly matter to me. Zappa had a knack for putting voices together in concert with the music, and I love that aspect more than his guitar solos or any individual band’s musical acumen. And this set showcases some of Zappa’s best vocal arrangements.
And, yes, it doesn’t hurt that the band is tight.
But I’m guessing the mood was right, too. This show just keeps going and going.
I’ll never get enough of this set.
I know that’s far from a compelling argument, but only something like Meat Light and the complete Roxy box rank higher for me.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.
^ Lick me, its my 10th Zappa Concert
Buffalo slays! That must have been the You Are What You Is Tour, yeah? Vinnie. I also love that album a ton and 3/4.
Damn...more stuff has come out then I realized.
I'll do a top five (no order):
Complete Roxy
Lumpy Money
Hammersmith Odeon
Little Dots
Imaginary Diseases
Honorable mention: Dance Me This
Also, the numbering system is a little weird. There are three 102s (admitted one has two extra tenths), and nothing between 103 and 107.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

That sequence corrected:
Roxy—The Soundtrack (CD, Zappa Records EAGDV050/CD, October 30, 2015) #102
Road Tapes, Venue #3 (2CD, Vaulternative Records/Zappa Records/UME VR 2016-1, May 27, 2016) #103
The Crux Of The Biscuit (CD, Zappa Records/UME ZR 20020, July 15, 2016) #104
Frank Zappa For President (CD, Zappa Records/UME ZR 20021, July 15, 2016) #105
Zappatite--Frank Zappa's Tastiest Tracks (CD, September 23, 2016) #106 (compilation, no new material)
Meat Light—The Uncle Meat Project/Object Audio Documentary (3CD, Zappa Records/UME ZR20024, November 4, 2016) #107
Edit: I should note that my "corrections" are based on the current zappa.com discography, not what is printed on the discs themselves. The official numbering system has changed over the years and is inevitably inconsistent...and they really did mistakenly print #102 on two different releases other than the one that is now listed as 102.

Best: Buffalo for sure. Also Imaginary Diseases, Wazoo, Little Dots (mostly for Rollo), and Road Tapes #2.
QuAudiophiliac. If someone told me I could only keep one single disc of FZ, that's likely to be my pick.
.... these are the four titles I do not have from that list. It's crazy, I've got over 100 Zappas in my collection, but there's always going to be a 'want list' of sorts.
As for my favourites from the rest? I love Wazoo, Imaginary Diseases, Meat Light, and of course the more recent Roxy Performances, Zappa In New York 40th, and Hot Rats Sessions. Absolute glory.

Do you mean you actually were in there?
I love the Road Tapes series, and in particular #2, which has to be one of the best live recordings of Zappa. Imaginary diseases is also essential. Of the extended boxes series, I believe there is more meat in the Orchestral Favorites one - and parts of the gigantic Hot Rats set.
Well, it is true Frank was very much into having top notch vocal arrangements. I guess that's another carry over from his days listening to and playing in doo wop groups when he was young. I think it was Bobby Martin who said he liked the 84 band best because he liked singing vocal harmonies with Frank, Ray and Ike.
As for the posthumous releases, Trance Fusion is still the only I have. I really want to get some of the large sets, like Meat Light and the Roxy set, but as always there's more stuff out there than I have money for.
BTW, I noticed one of the online vendors has Ahead Of Their Time marked down to like five bucks. Anyone familiar with that one? Isn't the show the version of Oh No/Orange County Lumber Truck on Weasels Ripped My Flesh was supposed to have been edited out of?
^ I can't answer that specific question, but Ahead Of Their Time is near essential for me, just for the second half. (The first is more of stage play set to some music, but definitely looses something by not having the visuals). That said, the second half makes up for any of the issues with the first half and for five bucks seems like a no brainer to me.

No, I wish. In the beginning some guy has a shirt that says "This is my 10th Zappa show so lick me"....and of course FZ picks up on it! Funny.
Agreed - the 1973 Helsinki Road Tapes No. 2 is indeed otherworldly. i love when Duke used his clavinet! This band is like Henry Cow tight...or is it the other way around?
If it isn't Krautrock, it's krap.

Ahead of Their Time is essential imo. Its a beautiful recording of The Mothers at their height. Way back when I started a Zappa cover band called Lumpy Gravy, I 'knicked' and transcribed a bunch of stuff from this album and we played it live as is on the recording. If you love that era of the Mothers, its a no-brainer.
