Thread: Misheard prog lyrics

I always heard that with a comma: "The music, dance and sing." But "muses" makes more sence with the next line, which begins "they make..."

I just figured a more plausible "reconstruction" actually

    The children dance and sing
They make the music really ring

Google's first hit (or their own summary) for "yes roundabout lyrics" shows:

    The music dance and sing
They make the children really ring

So that makes another case for "muses" being a better choice than "music", as it is the probable antecedent of "They" in the second line of the pair.
(Not that I subscribe to that theory, and I hesitate to embark on a plan to rewrite all of Jon Anderson's lyrics to make more sense.)

The stoner gibberish is what makes Jon's lyrics so iconic. I just like to nerd out like all hell, from time to time.

I usually think crossovers are vapid and stupid, but I really wish we could have had a Yes album with Elizabeth Fraser vocals and lyrics, and a Cocteau Twins album with Jon Anderson vocals and lyrics.

Simone Rosetti does a pretty good Kermit impression every once in a while, gotta give him credit:

The lead singer of Canned Heat, on "On the Road Again" and "Going Up the Country," has been described as sounding like Kermit the Frog, but I always felt he sounded just like Mickey Mouse.

That was Al "Blind Owl" Wilson. Canned Heat's regular lead singer was Bob "The Bear" Hite, but the Kermit guy got them their biggest hits.

I used to think that Zeppelin's "No Quarter" was by Canned Heat!
Before I get reamed for that, some background is in order:

I was still a kid who listened to AM radio. My older brother got a stereo with FM radio (pretty exotic for my family) and I started
hearing a ton of things I hadn't heard before. I didn't know the names of any bands, I just thought it had to be the same singer.
(at least on the quiet verses of "No Quarter")

Is that what he was singing? I always heard "Darth Vader" (or "Dark Something") too.

I remember in the late 90s/early 2000s, there was a website called kissthisguy.com. A site dedicated to misheard lyrics. The guy who ran it became so inundated with submissions, he had to disable user input altogether.

McCartney mentioned in his A Life In Lyrics podcast that Americans used to get a line wrong in Penny Lane. He said a lot of people thought the nurse was "selling puppies from a tray", apparently not familiar with "poppies".

Understandable given the difference between American and British pronunciations, though Americans should be familiar with poppies from The Wizard of Oz.

And talking about misheard McCartney lyrics, there's "Hi Hi Hi", about which Paul observed that most everyone (including me) heard the line "get ready for my polygon" as "get ready for my body gun," which makes a lot more sense in the context of the song.

And to bring it back around to prog, in "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" I always heard the line "studied pataphysical" as "studied for her physical", as I knew nothing about Soft Machine at the time Abbey Road came out.

Though it never occurred to me why someone would need to study for a physical examination.

Sometimes it's fun to say the lyric in Starship Trooper as "sister Bruford" even though I know it's really "sister blue bird." And although I know it's not a misheard lyric I always thought it was interesting that there was a race horse named "Speak to me of Summer."
