I figured it was no small decision, and also that they didn’t have much choice.

It is difficult to say bad things about Moog, despite some of the quality issues that occurred in the past.

@Rarebird: Be prepared; the video presenter is not kind to Behringer and their products at all.

I must say, before watching the video, I knew Behringer was…controversial…but I didn’t know about all the hubbub that surrounds them (specifically their relationship with Amazon and Sweetwater).

I don't own any Behringer stuff and in the end it's what sounds nice to my ears. My first polyphonic ensemble was a Yamaha SK-10, which got a terrible review in a musicians magazine, I still read. I liked it and had no problems with how it sounded.

He defenitly has some good, to very good points. I can't say I really disagreed with anything he said.
At this moment I have 3 MiniMoog software clones, all able to work polyphonic.
Arturia, which is good and offers additional modulation options and seems to be endorsed by Bob Moog
Cherry Audio, which is also good and offers no extras. To me it sounds a bit better than Arturia, but I never experimented with the real thing, so I can't make any real comparison.
Steinberg, which is free and only works in a DAW and sounds... well thin would probably describe it best. And the mixer has sliders instead of knobs.

Moog killed Moog by selling to a market that was propped up by creators living on the razors edge each paycheck. It was bound to fold when the price was so high and the average buyer had just a few percent inflation rise. Their costs were fixed until a parts shortage and supply chain bottleneck. It was either let go of a ton of staff or sell. They couldn’t just fire a load of employees who were all vested stock owner / employees as they would have to liquidate a ton of stock to pay them out if they need it, (and most likely they would) and that would trigger a stock sell off of larger stakeholders. They should have realized that synths are cool when you are living with friends, living with parents, or independently wealthy. They are not cool at all when you have debt, high inflation, kids, rising rent, rising mortgage rates, and $6 a gallon gas.

I continue to be tempted by the Poly D, and keep coming super close to pulling the trigger on one….especially at the price they go for.

I almost hate to say this, but after having an original MiniMoog for the last year (and it was in fantastic condition), I think I’d be okay with a knock-off.

I wanted some thing fairly unique, so I got an aluminum Voyager. Can't imagine using the Uli-D after that!

I think the uniqueness is in the sounds you create with the equipment you have.

Also, Roli is making a pretty nice push to make MPE affordable:

I was pretty turned off by Roli after some annoying experiences maybe 7-8 years ago with the original Seaboard but I have to say that I absolutely love the new Rise. Anyone curious about experimenting with MPE for their music might well appreciate this much cheaper baby sibling to the Rise

From Cubase 8 to Cubase 13, is quite a jump.

I'm still on Windows 10 until I build a new machine in a couple months. Still hesitant on Win11 though.

Me too, basicly because I'm affraid that it will give some problems with drivers, especially for my Nord G2 Engine. I hate it that Windows often asks me if I want to update to Windows 11.
My Akai Z4 only has a driver for Windows XP (no later drivers available) and I'm glad I still have an old functioning laptop with Windows XP, which I only use for my Akai Z4, to load sounds and stuff. It can be done from the frontpanel, but with the computer it is so much easier.
My current computer is almost 4 years old, so I hope it will work for some years. My last computer I had for 5 years.

Cubase 13 comes with Ionica Sketch, a full orchestra, which sounds very nice. The paid version of that one, which will probably have far more possibilities, is rather expensive € 999.- for the fullest version.

    Synthesizer Gear Porn ;-)

Bit of a left-turn question here, but any of y’all have experience with the older Yamaha Electone series organs? I’m specifically thinking of the YC-30 (combo organ with portamento strip!) and the E70 (the fabled “secret CS80”….sort of). Anybody here have one?

I have a 415 and a CSY1, both of which I love (and both of which are chock-full of cheesy synth goodness), but just wondering if anybody else has any of these and what you think of them. I’m being tempted by a YC-30 that “needs work” on FB Marketplace, but that portamento strip looks soooo cooool!

I do not. However I did have a YC-30 plugin. I don't see it on my system, so it may have aged out. I don't recall ever using it. It came with something else.

Alas not. I would be interested in some different organ plugins.

  24. #2249
Sorry, no YC-30 plugin for me either!

FWIW I'm pretty content with the organ options in the V-Collection. I also have the pipe organ that is available in Spitfire Audio's LABS instrument and it works pretty well. Sometimes during one of their big honking sales, I've contemplated Spitfire's bigger symphonic organ plugin but honestly...just can't see paying even the sale price for something I'll use sporadically at best.

I mostly care about B3/C3 organs. The IK B-3X is the best plugin I've heard. Brislin wrote some great presets and there's some cool pedal effects included as well. But I also have a Hammond XK-1c (and a Ventilator II backordered). I'm pretty well covered for organs.
