I bought a USB interface this past week and it came with Studio One 6. I can say I have absolutely zero interest about looking into it. Should I take a little time with it just to see how it works?

I've heard good things about Studio One, and that it might be similar to Sonar.

Some of the last items hanging around my wishlist are now acquired. Hive 2 and Diva.
Also, I'd like to share this as it was kinda maddening. I just got my backorder of a Ventilator 2. No power supply with it. Nothing referenced to one on Sweetwater's page. It has a 12v negative center printed on the connector. I thought they were all normally positive center as I have none of those. Response from Sweetwater was that pedals use that config and sent me a link to the right supply. Apparently they changed the polarity on the new V2 pedals. But if you search for a PS for a Ventilator 2, they all come up with a positive center. So buyer beware!

I went another way this year. Picked up PRS (Paul Reed Smith) SE 24-08 electric guitar and an Audiobox USB interface to record it. Now all I have to do is spend the next 3 years practicing to become semi competant.

Same for me. And now synth stack 4 with all synthesizers is 299. I wish they would make some additional package, for those who already have bought synth stack 3. And it looks like they have something, for less than $90, for me at least. Now I have to think. I need to update to Cubase 13 Pro and I don't know how payment to Cherry Audio would go. Sorry to steer towards the hardware side of things, but…
Anyone have any opinions on the Yamaha EX-5r module (or is brother the EX-5 synth? It is from 1998. It had some unusual synth engines in it and seems to have a unique sound.
I think it's a great synthesizer, which has the capabilities to create unique textures and timbres with lots of options to help create fresh new sounds.
I use to visit our local Guitar Center and always gravitated to playing the EX-5 on display. Almost bought it a couple of times, but at the time I had a Roland XP-50 which I loved and it would've meant selling it fund the Yamaha.

Interersting. A floppy diskdrive. Now where have I stored my old floppy disks?
Floppy discs are positively modern compared to using an old cassette player/tape combo to load voices into my TX-7’s. My studio is a Time Capsule in many ways!.
O yeah, those cassetteplayers to save and load programs. I remember that from my Bit 99. A f********* hell to operate, picking the right volume setting, because otherwise things wouldn't load.
Damn, I think I still have my GE Dataset somewhere. Along with my 2x Apple CD-ROM drive I used for my K2000RS.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to figure out where I left my walker...

Never had a synth that needed cassettes for data, but had a few with 3.5" floppy drives. I got to mess with a true Emulator II in school with the big ol' 5 1/4" floppies though!
Now, I spend an hour downloading a 140GB sample library and feel like THAT is a lifetime...

The ones i remember using the Dataset for was the Prophet 5, Matrix 6 and the Drumtraks. Might have been a couple others but mainly those.
I had an EPS, then EPS 16+ and an EMAX that used 3.5 floppys. Loading them during songs onstage was a real treat!
My K2000RS/K2600/K2600R have all had surgery to ditch the floppys and have Compact Flash readers now.

Thanks to all for the fun look back at the tech behind the sounds! Your CF solution for the Kurzweils is smart (I stumbled upon someone else doing that recently); I’d love to have my K2600RS modified that way.
And I DID go for the EX5R…it just had way too many interesting sounds due to the unique sound engines.
The Ex5R was probably a good bet if the price was right.
Yes, the K2xxx upgrades to CF cards was awesome. i got rid of the hard drives as well as the floppy drives.
I looked this up for you if you're interested. I got mine from SynthPlus on ebay some time ago. He has newer units that use SD cards instead of CF. $140, pretty close to what I paid before, maybe $125. I would highly recommend it because it will come loaded with presets and samples on a 16GB card. Reliable seller.
