Gaggle of love birds in the neighbor's ocotillo ("auk-uh-tee-oh") cactus...........
It's kind of hard to see because the cactus is about 25 feet tall, and I was shooting at ground level with my phone.

As we were heading to Frederick Saturday for my grandson's Ju Jitsu tournament my daughter saw a hawk soar by with a smaller bird in it's talons.

In the past I've seen hawks with snakes and ospreys with fish. I went outside once and found a pile of feathers in the yard, I'm guessing a hawk got a dove.

We have a lot of doves that hang around our feeder and we've seen more than one become a meal for a predatory bird.
Many years ago we lived in a townhouse beside a family that had three young kids. The youngest was around 4. She, her father and I were sitting on our porches chatting when a hawk landed on the front lawn between our houses and was munching on another bird, feathers flying everywhere. She said, oh look Daddy, that bird has a baby! He and I just looked at each other and he said, "Yes, a baby. Isn't that cute!". LOL! Thankfully, the hawk took it's lunch and flew away before she figured out that the "baby" was being eaten.

Sharp-shinned hawks (and their bigger brothers, Cooper’s hawks) have taken to hanging around backyard bird feeders as a source of easy meals.

Not a special bird, but I got close.

For the past two days I've spotted what I believe is a sharp-shinned hawk keeping watch on our bird feeder. On Friday it was sitting on our fence and yesterday it was sitting on a low branch of our lilac bush. It hasn't wanted to stay in place long enough for me to get a photo. But my camera is ready and waiting. Hopefully, it shows up again today while I'm around to spot it.
