This isn't about all the non-'prog' songs that use da 'Tron, instead I'm asking what some of your fave non-'prog' songs that feature da 'Tron are. Here's a few of mine:

Lynyrd Skynyrd Tuesday's Gone
About 7 or 8 years back, I was watching a TV show called Being Erica, which I swear had some Mellotron in the background music.
Those are the only two I can think of.
Benmont Tench plays some well-placed and tasteful 'tron on Johnny Cash's American albums.........
For me, it begins and ends with this:
Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883...
Zombies -"Care of Cell 44"
Groundhogs - "You Had A Lesson"
Traffic - "No Face, No Name, No Number"
Roxy Music - "Ladytron"
Hell, they ain't even old-timey ! - Homer Stokes
"Ashtray Heart" by Captain Beefheart
Captain Beefheart-Sue Egypt
"please do not understand me too quickly"-andre gide
The Bee Gees- Every Christian Lion Hearted Man, Kilburn Towers, Horizontal
The Zombies- Changes
David Bowie : Space Oddity
Sparklehorse : it's a wonderful life
Elliot Smith : Bottle up and explode!

Jan & Dean's "Taste of Rain" theme (1966). The Mellotron (or strictly, the Chamberlin) is the lead instrument and comes in at 1:00 and lasts the duration. By the way, Joe Osborne on bass is killer.
Lou
Atta boy, Luther!
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
Madden and Harris -Fool's Paradise album is what's coming to mind first.
How could i forget this!! Kool & The Gang-Rated X.

^That's a good one. This is one of my fave 'Tron moments (starting at 1:35); vocoder + Tron =

It’s Chamberlin and not Mellotron, but here’s some nice and tasteful use:
Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883...
This one just came up on my iplayer...it's on a compilation, so I've no idea who Keith Christmas is, but I love this...I presume it's a Mellotron I'm hearing??
Deep Purple - Soldier of Fortune from Stormbringer. Definitely sounds like a Mellotron and if so it's a rare performance on the beast by Jon Lord.
Two other essential LPs:
Marcus -From The House Of Trax
Bobak, Jons, Malone -Motherlight

Elton John - "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds"
I like that the Mellotron is played as a "lead" (at 2:44 through 3:07) which I don't think happens as often as when it's used for chordal pads or whatever you might call it.
^I like the 'Tron solo in "Island Girl". Haven't heard it for awhile but I'm pretty sure that's a 'Tron.
