Thread: Jethro Tull's album A- should it be reconsidered?

Probably the one track I can barely listen to. Over all I really dig A.
The lyrics and delivery are grating. The song about his kid’s Xmas toy needing batteries is pretty bad, too. Then again, I really like “Hunting Girl” from Songs from the Wood, and I’m pretty sure that’s a fantasy about getting it on with a noblewoman in the woods. I guess they can’t all be winners.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

In David Pegg's book. He thought the first fitting was a joke "on the new guy." In use, the material became clingy and transparent when body sweat was present.

I like this set slightly more than SFTW set.
I’ve gained 3 songs from it.
Crossfire and Working John I never bothered with but I love them now. The remix sounds got me into them. Coruisk is cool too

The longer intro to Crossfire would have made a better intro to the album. I love A, but I feel that it would've done with a better song order.

    Hunting Girl is bloody brilliant!

"She took this simple man's downfall in hand; I raised the flag that she unfurled.
Boot leather flashing and spurnecks the size of my thumb.
This highborn hunter had tastes as strange as they come.
Unbridled passion: I took the bit in my teeth.
Her standing over me on my knees underneath."

I replaced batteries with coruisk lol
It’s the best remix job of the collection. Love it.
Never realised working John was so cool

Syntactically clever, sure, and I like the song. But it’s still about alfresco fucking (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

"Hunting Girl" is also among the most devilishly trickly songs in their catalog. To me, the lyrics (which I happen to love) are secondary to the music, which is Prog Rock at its finest, imo.

    Got mine
    Ranked from right to left.
Hard to really separate the first 9 or 10 lol
TAAB has been matched by many sets.
Stormwatch and Aqualung are just double albums of excellence
Broadsword is in the same category but it has 3 albums. The third album is just decent though. The remixes of the bonus stuff are alot better now
Horses, songs, A are pretty equal. Some great extra material and the best sounding sets
Passion sounds great too and there’s a bonus 30 minutes of excellence not repeated on the album or Warchild
Warchild is another goodie with 3 albums worth. Tull shouldn’t have gone down the soundtrack path. Just stick with the usual stuff and there’s plenty of it here
Bursting out is a classic which I’ll check out soon

You got the same speakers on your computer than I do

They're fine if you sit at the laptop, but are not sufficient for proper room wandering
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Not tempted? I am. The book looks beautiful, getting the previously CD-only albums on vinyl would be cool, and live stuff from the Divinities tour, if only four tracks, is very attractive. But it's too expensive for me, and I hate the business of pressing three-sided records with "etchings" on the blank side. Either give us more music or combine the albums.

The remix set is excellent. Heaps of strong extra material. Warm sporran extension as well.
I thought Wilson could have cleaned up the production a bit more though
