It is strange, here in West Michigan we have only a few inches of snow on the ground. As you mention with the high lake temperatures and low air temperatures it is perfect conditions for lake effect snow here, but have been very lucky and not had much so far this year.

    Heated mirrors??

    Attachment 15734

When I woke up yesterday morning, it was snowing so hard that I couldn't see the houses across the street from us. Some poor soul decided it was a good idea to go cross country skiing on our street. They were trying to go uphill against the wind - two steps forward, one step back.[/QUOTE]

Winter's the best time of year to be here in Phoenix. That's when we get our "chamber of commerce" weather. And start seeing Ontario license plates, with the disposable income accompanying them.

And probably feels like -30. Between the storm and the cold, I haven't left my house since Sunday. And I probably won't leave until Saturday when it warms up a bit - high of -5 on Saturday.

You had to track back to 1996 for the record cold we saw today, minus 31. It's going to warm up to minus 7 tomorrow and then hover around minus 10.

We're meant to get a foot and a half this weekend. The beer fridge is full and there's football and soccer on.

And for that reason I didn't go out again today. Although wasn't quite that cold here. We went to Costco after dinner, but by then it had warmed up to about -8.

Sudbury was -33 this morning with a wind chill of -43. YIKES!

Sounds like a good weekend to me.

It was -20F at my house this morning (central Vermont). Hoping this Saturday snow storm tracks to the east and we get a dusting.

That was photoshopped, but I remember a lot of the local constabularies were sharing it on their social media accounts.
In a 2-3 week period we had more snow than we ever got in a season. I hope it never happens again. That was the year I was using a snowblower on my roof so that I could get down to the ice dams that were causing my roof to leak.

This Boston area sign isn't photoshopped, though.

Of course, though it's not beyond reason that it could be a real sign. I've seen them put up amusing messages from time to time, but I can't recall any off the top of my head. I guess I have to get my generator ready just in case.

I love winter. It intrigues me. I remember in either 64' or 65' , ( shortly after The Beatles landed at JFK), South Jersey was relentlessly pounded by a blizzard for days. Once my father got the kitchen door open we dug a tunnel from the patio to the mailbox.

In the 60s South Jersey was like growing up in the Northern U.S. and several adjustments one makes to survive in the North were part of my parents agenda.

In the 70s South Jersey was slammed with some very brutal snow blizzards. It wasn't as impressionable as the blizzards in SJ during the 60s, but still very destructive. 1978 in particular. As time progressed the consistency of these storms could be narrowed down to a minimum. The 80s storms were absolutely brutal, but such a decrease in the amount of them hitting SJ was apparently a sign that eventually the storms would vanish all together and that winter would just be rain from now on.

The blizzard of 96' pounded the South Jersey area for 3 days. It was amazing. Snowflakes were the size of silver dollars. A storm traveling from the South and a storm traveling from the West collided over South Jersey and pounded us for 3 days. It was to be expected, but unusual in the sense that we were now used to lame winters. Always above freezing, always raining..and for years...a massive storm would be traveling in our direction and nine hundred and ninety nine times out of a thousand...it would change its course and head directly for Philadelphia. ..and so Philadelphia had really cool storms and we had rain. Perhaps it's attributed to global warming as in the 60s the South Jersey area the total opposite of that.

I still enjoy snow , or the idea of it. Not so much dealing with it. I remember the monster storms of the 60s and 70s growing up in Brooklyn and Queens NYC. Maybe they seemed bigger because I was young , maybe they just weren't as effecient at removal back then. I remember in the late 70s living on a block that wasn't plowed for at least 2 weeks. People ran out of heating oil. As the storm hit I was driving around to various Ticketron outlets trying to purchase ELP tickets. No luck , the outlets closed before scoring. We tried at least 4.

We love loading the kids in the car, driving 2 hours north to the "high country," and playing in the snow. Then when we've had our fill, drive back south to not have to deal with snow anymore. In Tucson, they only have to drive about a half hour or so, depending on traffic to Mt. Lemon.

Well? Are you NorthEasters alive? The news outlets out here are all going nuts over the snow. We've had sunny skies and upper 30's here in the upper left coast.
