Yeah...I have ideas and motifs that take years before I finally get them in "finished" form. The little motif in the latter half of The Intrepid has been knocking around for over a decade, and for quite a while it was a major-key thing. Other times, it happens almost immediately and I'm lucky enough to be recording when it happens

    Same here.

As an added bonus, it also provides more motivation for me to practice.

Edit: This thread prompted me to revisit Between the Axiom and the Sigh tonight, and just now finishing up "Collapsing Star I". Holy cow, that is a beautiful track! I'd forgotten how much I loved this one.

Unfinished stuff that is just laying around remains unfinished. If I get an idea, it needs to be finished. In the past I send unfinished stuff to a German guy, who added things. This collaboration was Hyperions Fate.

Oh yay!! Glad you dig it (both the tune AND the album)

Ah yeah...the way I work is that I collect ideas and motifs in a folder that can end up unused for quite some time (or never really get used). I find that some ideas fall flat at first but with a bit of time and distance, I hear potential in them that wasn't apparent at first. Maybe I was going for something heavy with an idea that fell flat, but later one realize it would be perfect for a more mellow motif, for example.

By the way....apologies and I don't normally like being "that guy" but given the cause...please do take a moment to check out that "All You Nied is Norm" thread on the main page. There's an unreleased/older track of mine on there.

The tribute is for Uncle Norm, who was a patron saint for the prog scene and an all-around great guy. All proceeds for the album will go to St. Judes. For me personally, this was kind of a way to honor several folks whom I felt were dear friends on the scene, all felled by cancer: Norm, Geezer, and Lew Fisher.

I submitted a couple of songs for the album, Tidal was the one picked...but if anyone does pick up the album, PM me and I'll send you a link to the other song (called Grain Waves) as well as an old tribute to Rick Wright that I did (VERY Floyd, not exactly my most original moment but he was a biggie for me and I was in a sentimental mood on the keys that day). Going with the honor system on this one given the cause.

(minor edit: while grabbing a copy of the Rick Wright tune to upload I found another little oddity that might be cool to include, so I'm throwing that in as well. So...buy the album, support a great cause, I'll throw you 3-4 digital bonuses just for being the awesome folks that you are).
