I have been to a lot of live racing events in my lifetime, but Indy is it’s own kind of special animal. It is so huge it is hard to imagine if you have not been there. There are road courses that are longer of course, but a 2.5-mile oval is pretty rare in this day and age (Daytona and Talladega being the only others I believe). At Indy there is nowhere in the grandstands where you can see the entire track. The 500 also gets 400,000 people which amazing to see in itself. The pre-race ceremonies and traditions are almost as fun as the race itself. Of course, the downside to all this is the traffic means you have to get there early and not plan to leave until late. They actually have traffic routing down to a science, but with 400,000 people it still takes a while. I have never been to a road course race or the Brickyard race there.
Years ago, we used to go to time trials / qualifying every year. Back then there were a lot more cars entering, so there was more drama in being able to make the field. Indy used to get 200,000 people there just for time trials, but those days are long gone.
The race track itself is a cool place to visit even when no racing is going on. The museum in the infield is very cool and you can take a ride around the track in a van, which is fun to do too.
I would highly recommend it. Indianapolis is a cool town in general especially for race fans.
Apparently, Alpine's not renewing Ocon's contract.
“The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the white zone."
I also saw, recently, that Checo renewed with Red Bull through 2026. I was kinda hoping Sainz would get the ride. Don't get me wrong. I was a big champion of Checo when he drove for Force India but he has rarely impressed me since driving for RB. Altho, the truth is that he wasn't impressive at
That said, Mercedes hasn't yet signed their second driver. Will Sainz end up there?
In fact, most of the teams haven't signed two drivers, yet.
Alpine: Ocon out. Gasly possibly has an option that extends his contract 1 year.
Williams: Albon is good thru '26. Sargent? Who knows? Maybe Ocon can go to Williams and get shown up by Albon... or play bumper cars with him.
Haas: Hulkenberg is out. Maybe it's time KMag retires.
Sauber (Audi works): Hulkenberg is in. If I were Sainz, this would be my second pick.
RB F1: No drivers confirmed. As much as I like Danny Ric, I think it's about time he retired and let some young gun in. Yuki Tsunoda should stay, tho. He's had some good drives here and there.
If you're keeping score, so far, only Red Bull and Ferrari have two drivers signed.

McLaren does too. Both thru 2026

^ Yeah, I knew that. But for some reason didn't think to mention them, one way or the other.

Is todays race on TV?
All my espn channels have other events being broadcasted.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

I'm only here to reglaze my bathtub.
It is supposed to be on ABC7 in NYC - but it's being scrapped for the Puerto Rican Day parade until 3pm
I have it thru Hulu ABC stream

Wow. That is truly awful. (no offense to PR of course, but the piermere racing league (hell any sporting event) in the world being bumped for a parade is fucking ludicrous)

I"m not sure how that makes it less ludicrous.

It was on ABC where I live. Watched the whole thing. The weather situation made it quite entertaining although yet another runaway win by Red Bull.
I would have been irate.

Norris got screwed, it seemed to me. A full course yellow came out but Norris had just passed the pit lane entry. What I never got clear on was whether the safety car picked him up immediately or on another part of the track. At one point, he had a 28 second lead when Max, Russell, and Piastri pitted. What I didn't understand is if they're all driving the same delta time, then Lando should have still had a 28 second lead by the time he pitted. And, yet, it appeared Max, et al, all came roaring up to pick up the safety car.
All I know is, something seemed screwy to me.
“The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the white zone."
When it’s a safety car the delta time isn’t so relevant, they all catch up with the lead pack if the safety car is out there long enough, it’s not like when there’s a virtual safety car and they all just reduce speed to 60% of race pace and maintain the intervals. The problem for Lando was he missed the pit opportunity that others benefited from. At least that is my understanding, I could be wrong, it would not be the first time
I recall the TV crew saying Nando had been caught by the safety car.
Found this explanation online:
Sent from my NE2217 using TapatalkAlthough the timing of that first safety car was unlucky for him, there was no need for him to have missed the pitentry. There was plenty of time. He was around 300 metres before the final chicane as the S/C lights (on his dash and the circuit) lit up on lap 25 and he could easily have gone straight into the pits – as the following Verstappen, Russell and Oscar Piastri did.
But the call never came and he didn’t take the initiative. As Norris was then delayed by 10s as the safety car picked him up on his in-lap and the others were driving their out-laps to the faster safety car delta speed

Well, that's what I thought but I was confused because I recall Martin Brundle saying something about his big lead and still being able to come out in first even though he missed pitting when everyone else did.
Right, but they never said when he picked up the safety car.
Now it all makes sense. Thanks.Found this explanation online:

Well, it wouldn't be the first time a team blundered strategy. Just ask Ferrari fans.
And, of course, there's always the double-edge sword of coming in but losing a position or staying out but not having fresh tires. Still, at that point, I would think everyone's tires were in need of changing. So from my perspective, McLaren fucked up.
This is what Lando had to say:
“We should have won, simple as that. We didn’t do a good enough job as a team to box when we should have done and not [get] stuck behind the safety car. So I don’t think it was a luck or unlucky kind of thing.”
So, as I initially thought, Lando got screwed.
