Think back to when BAR, Caterham, Manor/Marussia, Lotus, Super Aguri, and HRT (and probably others I can't remember) came into F1 around the mid-200s to the mid-2010s?
At that time, it seemed that anyone with a bit of credibility and a lot of money could introduce a team - and they did not face the resistance that Andretti is up against.
The last all-new team to enter F1 was Haas - and again, it was an easy intro into F1.
So this desperate blocking of a new team is a relatively new thing, that did not occur in the past.

It has been going on for several years. I don’t know all the details, but on the surface it just appears like the current F-1 teams don’t want any additional competition and they know anything with the Andretti family involved is going to be a serious operation. I am sure that there is a lot more to it, but I am glad they finally seem to be making some headway. With the current rise in popularity of F-1 in the U.S. this can be nothing but a good thing IMO.
I know not many of you follow NASCAR, but after the success Netflix has had with it’s F-1 series “Drive To Survive” they have just released a new series that focuses on the playoff races of the 2023 season mainly focusing on 4 drivers called “Full Speed”. It is really well done for anyone who might be interested.
The new season of “Drive To Survive” should be coming soon too.
This article on the subject just came out today: https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/oth...2b9c412e&ei=16
And another one:
Formula 1 Rejects Andretti and Cadillac's F1 Bid
Regards,
Duncan
Bottom line :
If Andretti comes in with a Renault engine - F1 is not interested.
If Andretti was to come in with a Cadillac engine - F1 would be interested.
BUT - the Cadillac engine will not be ready until 2028 at the earliest. So letting Andretti in now, with a Renault engine, is rejected.
Therefore - ether Cadillac will need to get its engine ready ASAP, or Andretti needs to wait until Cadillac is ready.
Fuckin' politics!

Duncan
Watched the first two episodes last night and idk...maybe its not for me. Im not sure why I'm watching it. The on track stuff seems fairly minimal and doesn't tell me anything more than I know from watching the race broadcast and maybe 5 minutes of Race hub. The off track stuff feels so superficial as well...not that I generally care about the drivers off track life to be honest. But still...
I've never watched Drive To Survive so I don't know if its essentially the same thing there.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.
Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
I'm one of the 212.
Seismic event! I thought to myself more than once last year, "Wouldn't Ferrari be better off with Lewis in one of the cars?" They seemed to almost have the package, yet shot themselves in the foot, time after time, and not solely through driver error. However a proven winner like him could make all the difference. He may need a change after many a year at Mercedes too.
It's Oh-fficial now.
Starts in 2025.

Right. And some of those teams were customer teams, buying engines from Ferrari or Mercedes.
And remember Toyota? I thought they'd be as competitive as Honda but, man, did they turn out to be a dud. And they were a works team!
That was what I hadn't heard about, Duncan.
So now I'm wondering, what if Andretti cut a deal to buy engines from one of the works teams with an aim to switch to Cadillac in '28. Would the FIA still object?
Or is the problem that Caddy said it would supply engines to Andretti and only Andretti?
I find the most insulting aspect to this whole thing is this comment: "Research indicates that F1 would bring value to the Andretti brand rather than the other way around."
WTF kind of shit is that? AFAIC, the only teams that bring value to F1 are Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull. For the rest, it's the other way around. I mean, who thought in their right mind Alpine could ever be a contender? And as for Aston-Martin, I knew very little of them, other than being British and the James Bond connection. So I read up on them last year, I think. From what I recall, they quit making their own engines decades ago. At least Alpine has had a relationship with Renault going back 50+ years.
Yeah, this smacks of politics and my guess is that Mercedes and/or Ferrari and/or Honda have been talking with the FIA behind closed doors.
“The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the white zone."
Yeah, you're right. I wrote that before I read it and then forgot to edit.
So, apparently, a lot of American F1 fans are anywhere from really annoyed to outright pissed.
I was telling a co-worker, who I just discovered is an F1 fan, that if I were a billionaire, I'd covertly buy all the tickets to the 3 F1 races here in the US, burn them so that the venues are empty, and then put up a billboard outside of each venue that reads, "No Andretti, No Americans. FU, F1."
“The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the white zone."
I think it all comes down to an unwillingness to share their precious TV funds with anyone else. I recall an interview with Christian Horner at the end of last season when he pretty much admitted that, talking about maintaining shareholder value... blah... blah... blah. Those at the top are sitting pretty and will only agree to change if it does not diminish their perception of value.

Rain postponed Daytona 500 on Fox this afternoon at 4:30 for anyone interested.
A kid from my hometown named Carson Hocevar is making his full-time cup debut today . He grew up about 5 minutes from my house and I have been watching come up through the local short tracks for years. He got his start in mini wedges at our local Kalamazoo Speedway when he was just a kid and has slowly risen through the ranks. Carson raced in the truck series and Nextel series the last few years. He got a ride as a sub in a cup race once last year which earned him a full-time seat this year. Cool to see a local kid hit the big time. He will be starting 9th on the grid this afternoon. He is probably going to be taken to school today, but he is exceptionally talented and has a bright future.
