I just had another thought: even if Lando pitted when the others did, there's a really good possibility that he still would've ended up in third if the team wasn't ready for him and they had to scramble getting the tires. But who knows?

Very true.... But like the others did, he would have caught safety car with the others, yes in third likely , but tires warmed (not like later spinning in the wet coming out of pitlane trying to beat Verstappen) and with the better car.
Your first instinct IMO was right.

It appears that Eddie Jordan negotiated a deal for Adrian Newey, who has signed a 3 year contract worth $105 million with Ferrari.
Red Bull is toast.

Le Mans is this weekend!
Speaking from memory, rather than research, I believe there's a bigger variety (and maybe volume) of top-level cars than ever before.
Right now the top level is the LMH, aka the "hypercars" - and they look incredible.

You need to get rid of that 6 image limit, Duncan.
And why must I wait 30 seconds between posts?

Hey! Check out what I just discovered:
Le Mans is being streamed on (HBO) Max, via the B/R sports add-on. I assume it'll be ad free.

p.s. It's being shown in four parts, I assume six hours each.

Fyi, Jensen Button is driving for Hertz Team Jota, #38.

Yes. God bless motortrend and putting all 24 hours on TV.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.
Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.
I'm only here to reglaze my bathtub.
I watched a lot of it - including the start, the finish, and several hours through the night (goo to have something to do when you're an insomniac!)
Great race, IMO!
I get Motortrend free with my YoutubeTV, so it was easy to pick up.

Once again, we see where the punishment doesn't fit the crime and Toyota got fucked.
The #51 Ferrari spun the #8 Toyota around and got a 5 second penalty. The problem with that? The Toyota ended up 45 seconds back.

Again - Lando loses the race at the start line.

Once again, the punishment doesn't fit the crime. Max knocks Lando out of the race, is able to finish 5th or 6th, and only gets a 10 second penalty.
I really think if you cause a collision, you should go one place behind the person you hit and then be assessed a time penalty. And if that person gets knocked out of the race, you go to the back of the field.
But Max maybe should have gotten a penalty for too many blocking moves even before that.

It is very on brand for Max

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

I'm one of the 212.
Well, it was. He hasn't had much competition for a while and I guess we all assumed he grew up.
The truth is, however, that I've seen a few of the big names of F1 pull that kind of shit, even after they've become established winners and stars. I know some of you will take exception to this, but I've seen it from:
Andrea de Cesaris (not exactly a winner but his nickname was Andrea de Crasheris)
Emerson Fittipaldi
Nelson Piquet
Ayrton Senna
Alain Prost (only once, tho)
Juan Pablo Montoya
Michael Schumacher
Lewis Hamilton
There might be others, but they're the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.
I think the thing that irritated me the most was that Christian Horner didn't get on his case about it, especially prior to the collision, and actually sided with Max. Maybe he chastised him privately after the race, but had I been team principle, I definitely would have said something about his blocking because he had a somewhat sizable points lead and to keep his eye on the prize (i.e. the season). Finishing second is better than getting a time penalty and possibly finishing lower, especially when Lando was likely to get a 5 second penalty, himself, for track limits. And not to mention the worst case scenario: a collision and not finishing at all.
I'd have said to Max, "don't fight him too hard and if he gets past, stay with him as best you can."
