    WOW, another killer band! ^^^

On that first track, the singer sounds like RL Burnside when he's not in "gargling glass" mode.
You say Mega Ultra Deluxe Special Limited Edition Extended Autographed 5-LP, 3-CD, 4-DVD, 2-BlueRay, 4-Cassette, five 8-Track, MP4 Download plus Demos, Outtakes, Booklet, T-Shirt and Guitar Pick Gold-Leafed Box Set Version like it's a bad thing...

Anyone else think that sometimes there is a fine line between stoner and grunge? To my ears, Kyuss almost sounds like psychedelicized Nirvana.

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

I picked up two Wo Fat albums based on this thread. I listed to Psychedelanaut (sp??). It's a very good album. I love down-tuned guitars riffing and grooving with the drummer with soloing on top. The only criticism is that it may be a little long in the tooth. However, I'm happy that I bought it and would highly recommend to fans of this genre.

I think both stoner and grunge borrowed from 70s hard rock, so yeah; especially bands that released material in the early 90s, like Kyuss.

The Black Code is excellent - I bought it on the back of this thread, along with 'She Said' by Colour Haze, and 'Eternal Season' by Glowsun. 'She Said' could very well be my favourite album of 2012.

Here's the title track from another of 2012's highlights, the superb second album from Elder:

    Tu veux un camembert?

That Elder tune is pretty crankin' Paul-thanks for sharing!

A valid observation with that particular album, but I don't find that with Black Code or Noches de Chupacabra (still need to get The Gathering Dark!)

I just heard their "Protean Towers" song too. Did absolutely nothing for me. It sounded like a very watered down version of the band: Sleep

.....which I almost did at the 6-7 minute mark.

Just listening to the "Chupacabra" album and in the middle of one of the jams they throw in a classic ZZ Top lick. I can't place which song it's from at the moment but you recognize it as a ZZ Top lick the instant you hear it.

What do you guys think of Sleep's "Dopesmoker"? I recently picked up the current CD version. I like it quite a bit but it takes a while to warm to it as it's a bit of an endurance test. Is the mix that Matt Pike and Co disowned that much different from the CD in print now?

I have the old version (below) & I like it. I'll have to listen to some of it tonight and compare. Maybe I'll need to get the 2012 version.

    They are 4 actual versions.

    a. rough mix as "Jerusalem" (same as the London Records promotional disc) in bootleg format
    b. slightly edited/ differently mastered 52 mins version as "Jerusalem" on Rise Above -some say that it is a more carefuly mastered version of the bootlegged rough mix
    c. unedited original 63 mins version issued as "Dopesmoker" in 2003, by Tee Pee Records -probably an earlier version of "Jerusalem"
    d. remastered version of the Tee Pee release on Southern Lord.

SLEEP denied that the Tee Pee release was the exact version that they submitted to London Records, but they stated that it is the closest one soundwise. Either versions (Rise Above and Tee Pee) is worth investigating and I'm keeping both.

I only have one Sleep album, simply called "Sleep". I don't reach for it very often. I prefer the off-shoots of Sleep (OM, High On Fire).

Any of you guys into Electric Wizard? I never bought their latest. Is it pretty much a continuation of "Black Masses" ?

I like 'em. Have a few of their CDs. Just a few days ago I started reading an interview with Liz Buckingham: http://www.npr.org/artists/92754116/electric-wizard and btw, until I saw you deny it, I had thought you were among the PE elite... so, you're one of us commoners afterall.

Anyone that likes Sleep might also dig Bongripper. I have several of their CDs. You can listen to the new one coming out on March 26. http://bongripper.bandcamp.com/album...-roadburn-2012
