I love this one. Still holds up well too! Great horror/comedy. "It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent's Fritters!"

I love that flick. Rory Calhoun also killed it (albeit in a smaller role) in Angel a couple years later. I couldn't buy that issue of Fangoria fast enough.

A bunch of movies on that list look sucky.

The guy writes that 1981 is the greatest year for werewolf movies thanks to AAWiL, The Howling and Wolfen — then dumps Wolfen down at #18.

I prefer The Howling to AAWiL, myself. It feels more like a proper werewolf flick.

Recently watched "Civil War". It was worth the watch and scary in the possibility that the US could be enduring this if Trump loses in November.

Lots of the movies on the list do, indeed, look sucky. I saw The Wolf Man when I was a kid, since it was made before I was born, just part of growing up for a geezer. Don't think I've seen it recently, though. There are a few on there I want to check out, just for fun. Of those I have seen, I can recommend An American Werewolf In London, Ginger Snaps, The Howling, The Wolf Man, and Bad Moon. Most of the rest on the list I have not seen, or don't remember seeing. I don't even recall seeing Wolfen, and it's not in my dvd collection.

My wife was scrolling through YT on our TV for Mystery Science Theater and found Werewolf (direct to video 1995). Oh, Mike and the robots had a field day ripping apart this cheap piece of shit. Everything sucks: dialog, direction, the community theater acting, some actors are foreign and their English is horribly accented, sound editing is atrocious, and the makeup for the creature varies from frame to frame. I laughed my ass off at MST3K's nonstop barrage of jokes.

I watched Million Dollar Baby last night for a ridiculous number Of Times. Stellar performances from Morgan Freeman, Hilary Swank and Clint Eastwood. What a heartbreaker, still holds up. 9.5/10

Well, that "If" clause is kinda central to the movie's whole reason for being, isn't it?

I'm not disagreeing . The mods seem to be pretty strict as far as politics are concerned. For good reason , it is impossible to have civil dialogue anymore when politics are concerned.
This whole thing reminds me of 1984. Double speak , repeating an obvious lie so often its perceived as truth, an easily lead populace .The fact that anyone can vote is at once our greatest asset and our greatest weakness.

Dog Soldiers would be #1 in my list but otherwise it was a "eh, whatever" list

Dog Soldiers still has one of my favorite "last words before getting killed by a werewolf" lines: "I hope I give you the s**ts!"

Random watches of the last few days:

V/H/S/Beyond: latest install has sci-fi theme of sorts. A mixed bag but some cool ideas. I especially liked the skydiving segment, not so much the dog segment.

Oddity: yep, finally watched Klonk my boy! It was fabulous.

Picked up the entire original Twilight Zone series on Vudu and have been enjoying revisiting some old faves and hitting some that I don't recall seeing at all.

Also decided to treat myself early for Christmas and pick up a no-ad Hulu subscription. Started the last Hellraiser movie. It's not going to touch the first or second films by any stretch but it's already a far cry better than many of the sequels (I do have a soft spot for Hellraiser Judgement though, lo-budget and Doug-Bradley-deficient tho it may be).

Ah, the greatly polarizing MST. I lot of people love that show and the riffing on poor, defenseless, low-budget exploitation movies. Personally I love watching movies like that as they are and get a lot of entertainment from them that way. Maybe it's because I fell in love with anything horror/sf/fantasy related as a kid, or maybe it's just that I don't find the whole MST concept that amusing, but I could never watch a movie like that.

Since we're on a prog board, might as well throw in that I had this conversation with Gavin-Wallace Ailsworth, the drummer for Bent Knee. He loves MST. He can watch those movies either way, though, but I just can't, lol. To each their own.

There's a really good podcast called Stuff You Should Know, an offshoot of How Stuff Works. I've listened to a lot of episodes and most have been very informative. The last one I listened to was on the Judas Priest Suicide Trial.

One of their episodes was on horror movies that changed the genre. There really isn't anything novel on the list, from what I recall, but I thought some of you might like to listen to it.

You can listen on YouTube or download the audio, if you have the right app and if you want to listen ad free. They're also available through iHeart Radio and other podcast apps, with ads:

Or, if you prefer to download it, go to this PlayerFM link, right click the play button, and click "save link as": List of Horror Movies that Changed the Genre This has ads, too.

Dude, I still cry laughing at all the scenes with the swingers who get a room And yeah...Rory as the dual pistol cowboy protecting the young hookers in Angel

Right?? I was so pleasantly surprised by this one. It's somewhat predictable, but it's shot SO well (I mean cmon with the wooden dude!!) and really had some solid scares!

The place where they filmed the orignal Texas Chainsaw Massacre is now a restaurant in Kingsland. If you're ever hungry or in that part of Texas.

I remember buying that one too. I still have the first 50 issues, or so, in my basement. Great time to be a horror movie loving teenager, I tells ya.

Now that I've grown up (well, not really)....I'm a horror movie loving adult, bahaha.

Watched this (Oddity) Friday night with my new surround setup. Best horror I've seen in a while. Not sure if it was the jump-scares alone that jolted me or my wife screaming at the top of her lungs.

Mad God--Shudder, stop-motion animation, didn't do a lot for me due to not much plot, but admired some of the imagery.

Agreed...it's barely got a plot but visually it's a stunning and stunningly macabre fever dream.
