I actually think it's the second best thing Brand has worked on, after Epilog. The more advanced harmonics suit him, as do the dense dynamic. You can clearly hear his affection for stuff like Dün and Jean-Paul Prat in these recordings.

I'm at a most eschatological point of release and departure as far as the "symphonic" rock conundrum goes in general, though. This kind of issue - All Traps on Earth - is merely a faint exception to the rule AFAIC. But it's a very, very good exception all the same - like Ske's 1000 Autunni was already some eight years back.

This time I'm only five years late*! I wrote a review of the debut album A Drop of Light by All Traps On Earth, led by Änglagård bassist Johan Brand.

    * Well, actually the original version of the review was already published around the time of the album's release, but I only translated it into English now.

Great review! I only have to point out that the last track is not called ”Bortglömda Gändar” (there is no such word as "gänd" in Swedish), but "Bortglömda Gårdar".

    I fixed that. Thank you!

^ Yeah, good review. There’s one word of - I guess - Finnish in the entry for “Best tracks.” “Ja” instead of “and.” Also, early on, I think “anglagard-esque” should be capitalized.

This guy should make his music much more accessible.

I got the impression the album sold respectably, so has anyone heard anything about a follow-up?

I heard he was going the opposite direction, next release to be a nine-hour atonal opera for eighteen noseflutes and a chorus of alley cats. To be released on 256 wax cylinders, limited edition of no copies.

I’m all up for that, obviously.

Sounds like an idea for an instant Avant-Zeuhl classic!
