This is my issue, at times, with Beato. I don't care about him hawking his wares, that's how he makes a living. All good. What bugs me, is that it can take an absolutely interminable amount of time to get to the meat of the issue that he is actually discussing. Right now I'm watching a 12 minute video of his about whether using backing tracks in a live performance is cheating. Well, it's not really until just past the six and a half minute mark, that he even marginally starts talking about that!

Yes, there is some interest in bringing up the Ashley Simpson SNL thing. Yes, there is some interest in the history of backing tracks, and the actual technical side of how it's done, but jeez get to the point quicker, man. He drags it out sometimes so long.

    That is all.

I often forward fast through YouTube videos as this seems to be a common problem.

Yeah, I watch a number of guitar videos. If they are teaching a song or technique, I play it all the way through. BUT if they are demoing gear, or making a point (X guitar over Y guitar, why Z guitar sucks, etc), I fast-forward to the end because everyone will pad their videos with extraneous shit, waffling, or whatever. What Rick is doing is the norm. I guess they think that a video that's only two minutes long gets less attention than one that's fifteen minutes. That's also why I can't stomach more podcasts.

Many people are probably looking to pick up one or two crucial bits of information from their YouTube search results. It's always refreshing when you find a video that is 1 or 2 minutes long and gets right to the point, at least if you're looking for a how-to, DIY kind of thing. If someone is talking about something more nebulous or opinion-based then you would expect that to have some rambling included.

I believe there's some rule about videos having to be at least 10 minutes long to get fully monetized. So the padding here is intentional.

I think there is a connection between video length and the number of ad breaks. I remember one YouTuber saying he keeps his videos less than 8 minutes for that very reason.

Eight minutes or more appears to be recommended for getting the most money out of one's YouTube videos. Easier to put ads in.

Beato doesn't use ads, though. And I don't think he endorses any products, except for maybe his signature guitar.

I have an adblocker on my PC and laptop so I never see ads on YT. And I never look at YT on my phone (too small of a screen).

Which adblocker do you use - I have one built into my browser (Opera) but it doesn’t stop YouTube ads.

I use Ublock Origin on Google Chrome. I understand that it drives Google up the wall and sooner or later they will try to block it.

Most good ad blockers will cancel out youtube ads, as far as I know. Brave is my browser of choice.

I use Enhancer for YouTube which I have as an extension for Edge. I'm sure people might say that the channel owners are trying to make money, but I'm in it for me.

I use AdBlock Plus with Firefox. (It works just fine for me, but my daughter uses it with Safari and says it doesn't work very well.) I also have the AdBlocker web browser on my phone.

Rick Beato interviews guitar god Nuno Bettencourt. It's a long interview, but stick around for the great Paul McCartney story and to hear Nuno randomly play some of Rick's guitars.

I have only had time to watch part of it so far, but it is a great interview.

I was just watching that. Only about 20 minutes into it so far. Very entertaining. Nuno is one of my favorite guitarists.

I don't watch him, but I agree that the 60/70s have better music than the last 40 years combined without it being close.

If he discusses a favorite band of mine that gets no other attention, sure, but it does take him forever to get to the point.
