Sorry, late to this thread.. Just a question... When you are self funding your own album, Would a record label require you to pay them? I am confused... I understand paying the producer, but a label?

^ Maybe there's a certain difference between financing a recording process itself and then, on the other hand, expenses for pressing, artwork, distribution, promotion etc.? The latter often in tandem with a fringe record-label?

Great news! Not surprised in the least that they surpassed their modest goal. Only 128 supporters? In my alternate universe that is a travesty since M. Trigaux is a frickin' world-class artist in my tattered and forlorn book. All the best and hope they will (if so inspired/motivated to do so) follow-up with a few shows.

My smart ass comment was meant as a response to the fact that someone stated they obviously weren't paying their engineer 'jack'.

My point was they're paying me less. I'm not getting 'paid' at all. I'm getting to stick money into this thing in the hopes that it will eventually pay something back.

Ah! yes, of course. Being a label owner is perhaps the most challenging position in music. Seems like you cant win, sorry Steve... Selling fresh air to mountain men... dealing with ungrateful artists who expect too much... yeah, you are in a (mostly) thankless situation. There arent many thankful situations in music these days...

All I can say is I am thankful when I can play for people. Enjoying music more now than any time in my life, because I have no need for anything but playing the best I can. I do feel bad for younger musicians who have goals that they may never attain. "beating your head against some mad brothers wall"

I would love to hear about the things that make your situation rewarding.

    Dear contributors and Present’s friends
A little head up from us to confirm that, despite the recent events that have of course resulted in slightly delaying our project, we are back on track!
Last Friday, we could finally access the recording studio to resume the sessions. Our talented violin player Liesbeth Lambrecht could add her pieces to the puzzle. In parallel, some keyboards sections still need to be finalized.
The next step will consist in me spending a full week in studio in Tel-Aviv with Udi Koomran in order to bring all the pieces together, experiment a few creative ideas and initiate the mixing process. This will happen as soon as pandemic-related travel restrictions between Europe and Israel will be released.
It is a slow process, but we tried to use this forced slowness to think more in-depth, experiment further, challenge and re-challenge our artistic choices and explore new paths.
We’re halfway through the journey, but we keep in mind we would never have started it without you.
Thanks again for being our fellow travelers!
And looking forward to meeting you at the arrival!
On behalf of Present, Pierre Chevalier

Just got the latest Cuneiform newsletter and the new Present should be out late 2023 or early 2024.

    Very excited!

it won't be 2023 and the newsletter doesn't say early 2024.

As always, it depends when the materials are turned in.

Note : the following is not a promise or a guarantee by us, as we are not the controlling factor(s) involved with this project.

Having said that, in the last week I have been in contact with the principals behind this release, and it my understanding that everyone involved wants it to be released in March, 2024 and they will have the materials delivered to us in time for a March, 2024 release.

What a long, strange trip it has been.
