Other than win some of the competitions, what did Erika do that was worth the win, (& especially over Xander)?

I was not expecting Erica to win. I totally thought the game was going to Xander, but then started to doubt it during the final TC. Erica had some really great answers. That might have won her some votes.

    Oh. My. Gawd!

It's on MTV. The current season ended yesterday. The Challenge challenges eat Survivor challenges for breakfast. It's crazy! Gruno turned me onto The Challenge and I never looked back. The challenges are insane. Like jumping from a moving helicopter or walking along a girder hanging 30 feet above water insane. The equivalent to tribal council is that two people (or sometimes two teams) are voted in and then have to fight to the death in what are usually very physical challenges.

The drama is similar to Big Brother. Petty, silly fights. Many of them alcohol induced.

One of the things that I love most about it though, is that there are repeat players (many players are former Survivor or Big Brother cast members) and they can be from all over the world. Not like, all-star style, but people who have made a career out of participating in the game. Their relationships can be very intricate. The more seasons you watch, and the more you get to know the repeat players, the more interesting the dynamics of the game get. There is physical play, brain play, and lots of strategy. Oh, and the game is unpredictable. The host can change the rules at any time so, just when the players think they know the rules - BAM - the rules change. It takes 'expect the unexpected' to a whole new level.

    How'd I do Gruno?

Xander did have a bad final tribal, this is true. He definitely explained things better to the camera beforehand than he did at TC. I did not like the new format either...more questions and less observations is the better way to do it IMO, and I miss the opening and/or closing statement from each contestant.

Thanks for describing, but ya lost me here. Not at all a fan of MTV, drama or Big Brother. I'll stick with World's Toughest Race over on Amazon Prime.

If anything, check this 3 min. trailer for the season that just completed. The Challenge isn't for everyone. Survivor is on CBS for a reason.

Here is one more of the best eliminations:

They filmed Survivor season 41 & 42 back-to-back. Expect the same shenanigans and abundance of idols and advantages in the upcoming season.

I think Danny gave Deshawn his vote. Xander should have taken Heather to the final three and let Deshawn and Erica fire it out. If the final three was X, H and D, I think X would have gotten all but one vote, and Deshawn was beating Erica at fire.

That's exactly how my husband feels about it. I will say that the more recent seasons are not as bad as some of the earlier seasons I've seen. I think that because many players have participated for years (I think this season's winner has been on 18 seasons), they grow up. Many people that I've watched on older seasons as young reckless partiers are now parents and, as such, care more about their behaviour and how they are portrayed.

Right?? They were supposed to have a season 2 in Patagonia, but I think Amazon cancelled it. Not sure if it will be picked up by another service, but I sure hope it is.

Thanks for the recommendation - I watched the first few episodes on the weekend, have more to watch. Those teams are freakin' hard core!!

How's that one team ... 50 iron mans in 50 states, in 50 days, and yet they aren't doing very well! I wanna be as tough as them when I grow up.

Meantime - it's all I can do to train up to climb a mountain on the west coast next year.

Finally finished watching the World's Toughest Race. That's a hell of an event!

My wife watched it with me, and was cheering for all of the teams ... and I think she now gets the desire to do stoopid things from time to time

Looks like this season is going to be a continuation of the last. Everybody has to have a sappy backstory in order to make it on the show. Almost everyone is annoying in one way or another. Stupid things like having players spread mud and blood on each other to make it look like they were doing something they were not (that whole scene was cringe worthy IMO).

I have watched every season, and I am sure I will continue with this one, but this show has really lost something for me. Maybe I am just getting old.......

I think it's going to be interesting to see how this season is played versus last season. It's virtually the same game (so far), but with back-to-back filming the current players have not seen the previous season, so for them it's all new.

    For example:
I think that last season only one person played the shot in the dark. So far, this season, it's been played every TC.
The guy who found the idol with the stupid saying chose not to say anything yet. Last season, everyone said their silly statement right away.
