Just typing those above words brings a smile to my face.

Yeah, he lives around here (Burlington, Ontario, where I am, and Lino is just one town over in Hamilton). Wallace is a pwog masterman.

Dom / Cirkus got me here from yahoo KC group just after things got "rolling" here :-)

my Denise Milani Fanclub PM thread with Lino and Tootall

While only 65 miles from Bethlehem and attending school in Easton, never went to NF.

slang I picked up e.g. camples, flonkus

The Spanish "Prog" I found here - GOMA being tops, with Iceberg a close 2nd

The initial period after the conversion to current PE - btwn the actual website change, a significant membership exodus (from my perspective) and a generally more vitriolic tone - I exited for awhile. Least fave period.

Regardless - IMO this has hands down been the best music discussion forum over the last 20 odd years with a graceful balance of moderation and understanding; and the only one I give my $ towards.

My funniest memories of Yanks (Thomas Arena):

    - That he was a guy in a wheelchair who worked for a toilet manufacturer. His specialty was sitting!

    - How he loved Rush, but had to agree to disagree with Neal Peart’s basically humanist politics because he was politically conservative. This probably applied to most bands!

    - His reminiscences of Italian pastries. Also his father’s fondness for them. I remember when his father passed, which was sad, not funny.

    A couple of other observations.:

-The disparity of PE members’ financial circumstances is sometimes frustrating. I hate to see people I know struggle to make ends meet, and to see them have to forego releases and festivals due to lack of funds

-It’s interesting how we become accustomed to knowing many PE members by their words alone, with no real name or face. It makes me think of that Star Trek episode where the crew encounters the brains that live under glass domes. There have been times when I’ve sat near other PE members at festivals and not said anything to them, because it felt awkward to meet someone after knowing them a long time. I’ve sat right behind markwohl’s video camera at a few ProgDays but never said Hello! (Next time!) Once though I ended up sitting next to a member at a Hackett show and we had a good time talking before it began. I can’t remember how we identified each other, but I was surprised to find that he was Black. The lack of racial diversity (I think!) I is disappointing, but it’s not our fault. Although maybe there are things we could do to foster it?

    - One more related thing. The avatars are so small that I’ve often been unable to tell what some are, and I know I misperceive them as something very different from what they really are.

Oh, another memory: how we drove all the women away. Ok, not all, but some. More gender diversity would be nice too, but we’re a little unpresentable.

Biggest loss: the old site's quoting method.

Biggest gain: Threads not going to private. (And the severely less active groups over the much more active private threads in general)
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

There was that one time that one guy said something not entirely complimentary toward Phil Collins regarding his effect on the creative direction that Genesis took.

Maybe not seen as a high point by some (admins), but the attachment to PE2.0 and how some resisted until last second
High point: the pacification between PA and PE (I like to think I helped that), and being amongst the first (AFAIK) in posting on both sites.
Low point: the ultimate failure of the PE3.0 groups (is anyone still using them?)

Another (personal) high point: the torrid virtual relationship with a PA/PE member over PM and Skype for +/- 2 years. Too bad we never met in person.

One of the many places where I met PA & PE members (Den Haag in 2005/6 was a biggie, Canterbury - see my profile pic - was another, and of course Carmaux).

Meeting plenty of PA/PE at concerts or festivals: helps building a bond over virtual exchanges in forums.

Aaaah, yes, the quoting 2.0, but then again the multiple-quoting 3.0 is cool as well.
What I don't miss about 2.0 was the disappearing threads and post limite counts, which had some erasing old posts to keep posting. What I do miss is the reviews (the best I ever read anywhere was Cyclotomic's about TAAB), even if a lot of them were about bands I didn't care for.
I kind of liked the PM land, though yeah, frustrating if you missed out on it

Highlight for me has been friendship across the globe. It was such a small community at the start that it seemed like we all knew each other back then... and I go back to the days of the Yahoo group, when we didn’t even have threads just one long scrolling conversation. If you want on holiday (pre smartphones) you had a day of reading just to catch up!

I’ve met a lot of people when they have come through London, and they have always been cool and everything they seemed online. Meeting Lino and Denise was lovely after knowing him online for so long. Alberto from Madrid (Darkover) would come Over and attend every Yes gig with me. Scott and Marcia (can’t remember their PE names), were a lovely couple that met and married here, and we had dinner in London when they came over from the US, they have two cool kids but are parted now. Then there are all the U.K. proggers that I’ve met through here and been to gigs with, so many to mention, but most (in)famous in PE terms would be Sara and her profile pics! Tommo introduced me to Magenta all those years back, and it was great to become friends with them and attend so many gigs with my eldest daughter, who adored their music. There are many others who I have never met in person but still see and chat with via Facebook. Final mention to the inspirational Duncan Glenday who I am indebted to after he so kindly sponsored me when I climbed Kilimanjaro back in 2007, a gesture that underpins the community and spirit that is never far away, despite the maligned image of snark and argument that we sometimes acquired.

Who was the lady who used to have rather revealing pix of her cleavage? Madam somebody? She was entertaining.

Another entertaining event was the day Billy Sherwood left the group and all the fanfare that went with it.

Apologies to our much-loved Chris, but the group photo with the Vulcan salute, and the photo-shopped "NEARfest Or Bust" hitchhiking pic were hysterical.

    "No Hackett, no metman"

It became something of an inside joke. Was it back in 2007 at the time for the Turn it on again tour (or earlier)? (This "metman" fellow wrote in almost every Genesis reunion thread that he wasn't going to attend any show that didn't include Steve Hackett.)

Remember when the phrase....."Prog Snob" was a thing.... Haven't seen it used here in 10 years or more. The thing about PE is that general music discussion is encouraged. It's very inclusive.

    What does it even mean?
    -
    • Non-fans of neo-prog?
    • Guys who only like Seventies symph?
    • Guys who don't like Nineties Resurgence - AKA Weed Peasants + Kirk's Toupee, etc.?
    • Guys who only like avant-prog?
    • Guys who are just picky about their fandom in general, and have high standards of one type or another?
    • Guys who are insulting to those with less knowledge of obscure, or even not-so-obscure acts?

I remember it being used as an occasional accusation, but I'm not sure what it means, and may have never been sure.
