Turned out he was the USA manager for Insideout Music.
Wow, that was a weird coincidence.

Not sure where to post this, but there has been a death in the family. Long-time PE stalwart (though not so much the past few years) IMWeasel's husband died unexpectedly. If you're friends with Weas on Facebook, you might be aware but I'm sure there are plenty of you who are not on social media so I'm posting this here.

    Very sad. R.I.P.

That’s very sad indeed. I remember Weas as a long ago poster and a friendly and enthusiastic soul, but I am not connected on Facebook, so this is shocking news.

I think he did one interview in Guitar Player back in the Machine Head era (the one where he made a crack about how "Grand Funk Railroad have supposedly sold 5,000,000 records, yet I've never met a single person who likes them"), then another during the original Rainbow era (circa Down To Earth or Difficult To Cure, I think), then the next time I remember them interviewing him was in the mid 90's, around the time of Stranger In Us All. I think I've seen one or two interviews with him in the other magazines, but that's about it. When the Heavy Metal Pioneers documentary came out in the late 80's, I remember all the Mark II band members appeared to have done new interviews for it, except for Ritchie, who's commentary is relegated two two or three comments that looked like they might have been pulled from "file footage".

I think Ritchie just doesn't like "playing the game" that everyone does, especially in the mainstream-ish realm of music, ya know, press junkets and all the rest of it. I recall in the liner notes of one of the Deep Purple archival things, there's a bit where a press conference the band did is mentioned, I guess sometime around the time of Burn or whenever, and the comment is made that the entire band showed up for the PC, except Ritchie, with a footnote that "Then, as now, he tries to miss such events whenever possible".

I still have the Blackmore Guitar Player issue from around the time of Long Live Rock'n'Roll. If I find the time (not so hard these days during the pandemic), I'll find it, scan it and post it later today.

The Guitar player issue I had must have been destroyed when the water heater in my apartment blew up a couple of decades ago. I did however find the February, 1985 issue of Guitar for the practicing musician, featuring Blackmore on the cover. Here it is.....

Thank you. I like that crack he takes at David Lee Roth.

It was neat to see the faces behind the screen names. I liked Lee and everyone reminiscing about coding and stuff like that. The history of Progressive Ears is that much better from the cats behind the scenes through the years. Pretty unique.

Enjoyed it last night. Nice to put some real faces to the screen names. Look forward to more.

Indeed, but for a while I couldn't figure them out (who was who) except for Sean, because they all call each other "Bro"

For example, I finally found out who was the young one in the bunch of geezers. I knew Cozy was younger than the rest of the Admins, , but i also (wrongly) figured Duncan would be the same age.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I'm watching SOAL now. I thought Duncan was American. Where's that cool accent from?
