I too like Jaga Jazzist. Thoroughly modern cinematic jazz that still evokes the classic period of jazz when it was stretching and experimenting.
Thumbs up on the David Gilmore - first time hearing to my recollection and its great. Definitely going on my "to look for" list.

I want to take some time to plug Kurt Rosenwinkel's latest album, or rather double CD, Star of Jupiter, which is most definitely Jazz, and swings like a mofo, but I think it would appeal to proggers.....it's been spending a lot of time in my CD player lately.
I mentioned earlier I have been sending e-mails back and forth with my drummer about jazz bands....this one is my drummer's favorite bands right now (I am also showing him this thread as there are lots of names neither of us have heard)

Here's another fine guitarist. Ellman has worked with Henry Threadgill, and he has a few records out.
David Binney's stuff is cool indeed Nosebone.
In the last jazz thread (or the I hate jazz thread I think), we mentioned his album Greylen Epicentre. It has abeen a fave of mine for awhile now.
funny you should mention this guy. I was listening to Threadgill's CD "This Brings Us To Vol II" in my car today and I was thinking how much Ellman sounds like an early John McLaughlin (circa Extrapolation ) at times. I love Threadgill's stuff and enjoy this outing although I miss Gene Lake's muscular drumming. Ellman also produced this one I remember reading.

I've listened to that Ducret tune before. Pretty cool! I have his News From The Front CD. And some Tim Berne albums he's on including Science Friction, which is up on YouTube.

Two djs/producers from Poland,Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudio create cds from samples of Polish jazz from the 60s and 70s,with breaks,hip-hop beats and other manipulations thrown into the mix.They call themselves Skalpel,and their s/t cd from 2004 gets spins at my place.There's some really good music here,regardless of whether one can truly call this jazz.I post two tracks from the s/t Skalpel cd,the first cut is titled Together, the second cut is High.Check it out......daddy-o.

While I've enjoyed Stefon Harris' touch and technique, his CDs never retained much reply value for me. I'm not sure what failed to grab me...perhaps they had too much of a smooth jazz / lite trip-hop sheen for my taste.
However, I got to see him perform with Blackout, and his playing, band configuration and choice of material seem to have really matured. The musicians are super improvers...very tight. They play with odd meters quite a bit. They also utilize vocoder, courtesy of Casey Benjamin.
