    Look out, Paicey!
Looks like besides Paice your inspiration also is Carl Palmer to keep going on strong, congrats!

^^ I never liked the sound of the original release.

I never had an issue with the sound of Machine Head. My problem was how clean and precise the playing was. The live versions of most of the tracks were much preferable to me.

Sounds good considering they had to record in an abandoned hotel. With a mobile truck parked just outside. After some stupid with a flare gun burned the place to the ground.

I'm going through those first three DP albums. First time ever actually. I've heard a few tracks here and there over the decades, and whatever radio hits came out of them. Lots of long, jammy, proggy songs on those albums. You can hear how prog and heavy metal developed from psychedelic, British rock in the 60s.

It is a bit heavier than the first two. Look, I get why they got rid of Rod Evans, but I don't understand why they got rid of Nick Simper. He was a damn good bass player.

    DESERT ISLAND DISC RIGHT THERE!

And that's despite the fact that I'm not a huge Rod Evans fan. Although, I do think it has some of his best singing. I never liked his voice. I thinkhe sounds like a lounge lizard. He would have benefited greatly from some professional training.

I think Gillan forced their hand. He wouldn't join them without Glover, I believe. I think Simper may have pissed off Rithchie at some point.

I've seen a few DP documentaries on YouTube. Nick tells the story of Ritchie getting pissed off at him because he (Simper) smiles too much. Good grief.

It's the same with Roger. After Gillan quit, the original three, mainly Blackmood felt Roger should also be replaced. Had they not done that, history would've played out much differently. Glenn Hughes funking up the Stormbringer album drove Blackmood out. Glenn Hughes stinking up the stage, apologizing to the audience that "we" sound so bad broke up the band.

The opening track of that album ("Chasing Shadows") is my favorite DP tune.

I wish the Concerto was more like this.

Can't seem to stop listening to this song:

I've played about 5 times in over the weekend. Very experimental, killer guitar solo in the middle. And what I thought were bongos is Jon playing very distorted, crunchy, organ stabs. Great track. As good as anything by Mark II.

^ Killer fuckin tune. I know exactly the part you're talking about. Some cool chord progressions in the middle too. Was Mark I as decent as Mark II? Hmmmm.....

GREAT SONG. There was a great comp of MKI called "Purple Passages," which was on regular rotation. That's where I first hear "The Shield."

One counterargument would be Mark I did covers. Mark II stopped doing covers.

    They did some live, though.
