I was late to the game with Camel myself. Didn't actually really start listening to them until 2011, even though I'd bought The Snow Goose some time before that. But they are a great band, and especially during their classic period put out some excellent music. Nothing particularly "challenging" IMO, but that's okay! I don't want all music to be the same.

Moonmadness is probably my favorite. The music and the album artwork just go together so well. It's downright blissful.

Completely agree (although I love all their stuff). I'd heard the name for years and in 2008ish happened to see a battered vinyl copy of Moonmadness at a flea market, and it was one of those things where you just see the cover and go... yep, going to like this. I happened to also find Nektar's Remember the Future on the same day, which I'd never heard of before, but had a similar response and was right in both cases (though Moonmadness has been more of an enduring favorite).

Two great discoveries in one day... should have played the lottery that day!

Remember the Future is a great LP... their best to me. Regarding Camel... they are one band I think finished particularly well... meaning the newer stuff stands up well against the classic era at least to me. Dust and Dreams is just fantastic, Harbour Of Tears as well. Both of those are really strong start to finish. Nod and a Wink might be the weakest LP in the catalogue to me but Simple Pleasures is a killer track. Rajaz has a few tracks that I think are as strong as anything from the 70's... just my 2 cents. That Moonmadness tour 3 years ago or so... superb.

Right on. When Latimer plays, I get the feeling of each and every note is like wringing out a wet sponge. Not necessarily a dirty sponge, but definitely a sponge. He makes it count!

    I really like that description.

Latimer plays what the song needs, and seems to favor a less-is-more approach a lot of the time -- it works! Gilmour is another guitarist I feel is cut from the same cloth in that regard.

Well said and agree on the Andy and Dave comparison. Always thought that myself. Too bad the audition Andy had with Roger Waters did not work out... would have been cool to hear his interpretations of The Floyd!... and what exposure for Andy that would have been!!
