PS...on the tune "Welcome to Hell"...from 3:43 to 3:48 there is a little set of chords that sounds like it was either a tribute (or directly 'nicked') from another tune by somebody that I cannot place? Any help?
Or its just a coincidence...
I think Black Midi is one of the most interesting new bands of the last few years. I wrote a review of the band's second studio album Cavalcade: https://pienemmatpurot.com/review-bl...avalcade-2021/

Apparently they have broken up according to Geordie and Cameron's Instagram accounts. Damn that blows. Geordie is working on a solo album.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

I can't speak to their music overall, having only heard this track, but that video is outstanding: the production, the CHOREOGRAPHY, concepts, sets, costumes, animation.... wow. And the tune is very cool in the context of this video. Very cinematic piece which must be very abstract without these perfect visuals. Thanks for sharing this
And the code is a play, a play is a song, a song is a film, a film is a dance...
Here's Geordie's new band:
Thanks for that, seems to be primarily a vehicle for Geordies vocals and the music is a step back from black midi.

Geordie Greep of Black Midi has a debut solo album coming on October 4th "The New Sound."
1st single/video. Rather catchy.
Greep just announced a U.S. tour and he is coming to Bell's Brewery 10 minutes from my house in February. I may have to check that out.
Too bad about the breakup, they release three great albums.
Hopefully, new endeavours will let us keep listening to the members. Greep’s single is a good start
I have no idea how big a part of the Black Midi sound is generated by Geordie (quite a bit in the song-writing I'd imagine), but I'm having a hard time finding much to like in this song. Something is missing, for me. Maybe in the context of the whole album? Let's see.

Didn't resonate with me either

The whole Geordie solo album is now up on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...vRsOG806ohrAsQ
In which we discover that having reinvented King Crimson (and prog in general) as scrappy post-punk while a member of Black Midi, Geordie now releases a solo album in which he reinvents Steely Dan (and Frank Sinatra) as scrappy post-punk.
I listened to the whole thing today and loved it. I need to listen to it again while reading the lyrics, since it seems to be following the same weird person as "Holy, Holy." "As If Waltz" or "The Magician" are probably my favorites as of now, but that can change of course.

Not sure if anyone here is a fan of Justin Hawkin's YouTube channel, but he just did a review of Geordie Greep's singe from the new album that I found pretty entertaining.
This album is in the running for my favorite album of the year. The more I listen to it the more I like it. I look forward to seeing him live in a few months.
I am really positively surprised by Greep's solo album. My review: https://pienemmatpurot.com/review-ge...ew-sound-2024/

Great review! Thanks for posting the link. Greep is playing about 10 minutes from my house in February at Bell's Brewery which is a small 400 people max venue. I am curious as to what his live band will sound like (I have looked at some YouTube videos) and looking forward to seeing him in such an intimate venue.
